ABOUT ME
*** We are no longer a couple - if you are looking for current info on Lucie, please see her individual page (look in the friends list below under 'Lucie Burns-Warr'). But please take a look at the references below for info about Lucie's CS experience ***
We are a happy little couple. Travel lovers, people lovers, new friends make us smile. We are pretty relaxed and usually prefer to just go with the flow, so long as it's not just watching television. We're curious about everything. We like being silly. We like having a glass of wine and a chat, and if that escalates to antics on the dance floor, that's good too.
PHILOSOPHY
Never say no. (Unless the offer is very stupid).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We are telling our best friends (the travellers) to participate by hosting surfers. Once we return from our travels we will be welcoming the world community to our couch in Australia.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We've had a few surfers at our flat in Melbourne. It was so exciting to have a little piece of the world staying on our couch. Hosting travellers is like travelling yourself. We've stayed on a few couches in Europe, and we can't imagine travelling any other way now (except for wwoofing). It's the best way to get to know a country, and to understand the people that live there. CNN and BBC like to remind us of the evil in the world, but staying with our hosts has reminded us that many people are still generous and willing to trust each other.

Music, Movies, and Books
Film - Anything by Tony Gatlif, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson. Love the arthouse films, love classics like Hitchcock and Orson Welles. German films, Spanish films, French films. Blockbusters can die, but we have a small place in our heart for animated films like Monsters Inc and Horton Hears a Who. Too Funny.
Music - we have an eclectic but alternative taste - including Beirut, David Bowie, LCD Soundsystem, 70s Soul and R&B, old Jamacian reggae, Cinematic Orchestra, Calexico, Folk, Four Tet, really there's just too many to list...
Books - we're getting back to the classics on this trip - Crime and Punishment, 20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea etc - but we're keen to read local fiction too, looking for recommendations..
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Tom - I found a bunch of Polish Archaeologists in Bolivia and accepted their invite to dig up bones in the Amazon. I felt like Indiana Jones, and true to form I almost died from mosquitoes and snakes, but a month later an ancient relic I discovered in a burial site went into a Polish Museum for little children to point at on school excursions.
Lucie - Climbing a semi-active volcano with a chest infection in Guatemala, hanging out in the nude at a hippy commune in southern Spain, and attending an anti-war demonstration in Athens in 2002.
Teach, Learn, Share
Tom knows a bit about film and writing plays and journalism and surfing and capoeira (Brazillian Martial Art) and a very small amount about juggling and firestick twirling.
Lucie knows about travelling, social justice issues, soccer, good books, cooking and lots about spending very little yet getting very much. She should know more about Law and history, but she keeps forgetting the details...
