About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'm in Spain to learn a second language and decide in Hemingway's a liar.
ABOUT ME
I really like reading about history and philosophy. I've been playing drums in punk bands since I was 15. I love bikes, and I've worked as a mechanic in a bikeshop since I was 14. Other than that, I really like interesting conversation, drinking coffee, and swapping stories.
PHILOSOPHY
I suppose my personal philosophy is sort of an intertwining of modesty and excellence. I believe in working hard to be the best I can be at the activities that interest me, but at the same time carrying myself with the modesty to always learn more from those around me and those who have written before me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I just learned about the CS2 project a few weeks ago. At this point, I'm travelling, so I don't have much to contribute. However, once I'm back in Chicago, I would love to show people around the city, take travellers out for a drink, and, so long as my roommate agrees, make my couch available.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I did some couch surfing in the summer of 2006 when a band I was in did a small tour through the midwest of America. My favorite was probably this festival we played on somebody's farm, and after the concert all the bands pitched tents in the field and talked about how they'd gotten into rock music and why they loved it so much.
Interests
I'm very interested in American intellectual history, ancient Greek and Roman history, French and German philosophy, journalism (both writing and reading), and short stories.

Music, Movies, and Books
I don't watch too many movies, but my favorite is probably "Jaws".
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Sonic Youth, Girl Talk, Tom Waits, and Two Galants.
My favorite books are The Iliad and For Whom the Bell Tolls, but I've read a lot of philosophy and history, and I'm always down for geeking out about books. Also, Borges is rad.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I don't know about amazing, but my band and I have played almost 60 shows in the past 4 years (mostly in sweaty basements), and I'm extremely proud of that.
Teach, Learn, Share
In terms of practical knowledge, I know almost everything there is to know about bicycle mechanics. I also know how to play the drums.
In terms of esoteric knowledge, I like talking about the history of philosophy.
