To get from Hong Kong to London by land

ABOUT ME

I am part of the ever expanding international collective of non-fliers. We're a lovely bunch, traversing the earth without ever leaving it. I'm not a hippy, I just don't think that the planet can cope with the current level of hydrocarbon consumption.

I am a generally open-minded guy though, as demonstrated by my current residency in mass-energy-consuming Hong Kong.

At the moment I am trying to get back to my London life as a furniture maker. I'm hoping to meet a few of the people who's countries I pass along the way.

PHILOSOPHY

If you're going to do it, do it really, really well. Or at any rate, try. Or at least think about it. Basically, everything is worth a thought.

And this old Arabic saying: The soul invariably travels at the speed of a camel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sleeping on peoples' sofas then doing them favours in return. I also participate with then intention of returning all these incredible hosts with some incredible hostage of my own back in London. (Perhaps that should have been host-age...).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed two sofas to date... Both were great. I think I could get into this CS thing. Looking forward to hosting a few folk in London or possibly even my parents' place in Bath...

Interests

I am interested in all things woody. And tooly. And machiney. I'm also interested in people getting off their arses and doing stuff. Any stuff. I find personal endeavour a fascinating thing. I find laziness and inactivity one of the most depressing things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bathing in the moonlight of a summer's night in the grass-walled bath of a rural Zambian homestead springs immediately to mind. There have been other things too.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have many practical skills. I make things out of wood. I also know bits about other materials and mechanics too. And a fair bit about graphic design, illustration and book design.
