About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My basic mission is to immerse myself into the local culture as deeply as possible. I'm currently in the first phase of a thesis investigation on argentine speech communities, and a fundamental aspect of the investigation is local culture.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently a PhD student doing work in the field of Spanish sociolinguistics. In addition to language, music is an important part of my life. To supplement my meager TA income I play in a reggae band during the summer, and trying to keep the muse in check during the semester has always been a bit of a challenge for me. With regards to personality, I'm relatively carefree and I don't vex very easily. I'm a firm believer in making the most of life - rather than killing time we should do our best to breath life into it.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live, but live well and live right.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This is my first CouchSurfing experience. It seems like it's a good way to catch a glimpse of the local culture.

Interests

In my free time I like to read (mostly non-fiction), play and listen to music, try out new recipes, volunteer in local community programs for second-language learners, travel, play soccer, etc. I enjoy light-hearted banter as much as anyone else, but for me a serious convo about politics, language, music is much more stimulating. Ultimately there's a time and a place for everything.

Music, Movies, and Books

Reggae, funk, mid-90s hip-hop, books on the emergence and diffusion of changes in the phonetic system of Argentinian Spanish (no joke), and other such things.
