About Me

My name's Tom, I'm coming to Dublin for seven weeks (December 5th until January 22nd) to break up the drudgery of winter, connect with great folks, and play as much music as possible.

I've written loads of songs on the guitar (and other instruments).

I hope to attend open mic nights, Irish music sessions, busk in the street, and work diligently upon a novel that I have thus far failed to finish (time to break the curse!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting people from different cultures, exchanging ideas, making friends.

Interests

— All kinds of music... I've studied music all of the world. I play mainly guitar, but also flute (bansuri), fiddle, accordion, piano, hand drums, and more

— Good films

— Vegan cuisine (I have been vegan for 20+ years, but I am not preachy, so no worries)

— Free thinking

Music, Movies, and Books

This list is ever evolving... But some classics:

MUSIC: Radiohead, Beatles, Dylan, Fela Kuti, Talking Heads, folk musics of the world

FILMS: Stanley Kubrick, Paul Thomas Anderson, John Carney, THE COMMITMENTS (best music film ever?), lots of good animated stuff... I'm a sucker for old Disney films (mainly for the music)

BOOKS: I need to get back into reading -- happy to hear your suggestions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent seven months traveling in India / Nepal with no cell phone, laptop, or electronic gadgets

Also spent six months traveling in South America with no technology as well

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach music, especially guitar.

I've been playing for 25 years and have studied all over the world — not saying I'm a virtuoso... I'm far too lazy for that! But I can teach absolute beginners and give some new ideas to those who are more advanced.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Music, conversation, laughs, share a meal
