Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see the United States in an utterly unorganised fashion.
ABOUT ME
I am Tom, a 27 year old guy from The Netherlands. I have a broad range of interests and I enjoy talking with people about all kinds of things.
Recently I finished my masters programme in applied mathematics and now I'm looking to do anything besides mathematics (not that I don't like it, I do. I just like so many others things as well)
While travelling I like to plan it on the fly and I am down for fun activities that I encounter during it.
PHILOSOPHY
Don't let yourself be restricted by the choices you have made. Find the boundaries of what you can reasonably do and try everything.
Don't be defined by your studies or job.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I recently joined following the advice of a good friend.
I am not just looking for a place to sleep. I am looking to meet enthusiastic people and to join them in whatever piece of local culture they see fit.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I may have inadvertently hosted some couchsurfers without being aware of this ...
Besides from that, I am completely new to the experience.
Interests
Cities! I love cities. And consequently travelling.
In addition I like music (playing and/or listening), literature, swimming, philosophy.

Music, Movies, and Books
Read these three books:
> "Roald Dahl - Collected short stories" for awesomely fantastic stories from which you can take a thing or two ... or nothing at all
> "William Golding - Lord of the flies" for an unsettling insight in the way humans treat eachother
> "Herman Koch - The Dinner" for an excellent story by one of my favourite Dutch contemporary writers.
My musical taste tends to swing from Rock'n'Roll to classical via Jazz and back.
Movies? I don't know ... usually I tend to fall asleep. I enjoyed Jurrasic Park, though.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Organised a study tour to Mexico: Three weeks with thirty people.
It was hectic, stressful and hard, but oh so very awesome.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can spend some hours teaching you to
- play guitar
- do mathematics
- play piano (but I'm just as eager to learn more)
- juggle
- play trumpet
- do the butterfly-stroke
- roll a coin over your knuckles. (it's as useless as it is awesome)
