About Me

Travelling is my favourite thing, although that's hardly surprising to read considering the website we're on... I started just after high school and have the goal of never letting my age overtake the number of countries I've travelled to.

I've been a high school teacher for a few years but am considering a career change of some kind, perhaps teaching English somewhere else in the world.

For quite a few years now I've avoided eating animal stuff, so I'm very interested in discovering the vegan options available everywhere I go. If I'm a surfer at your place I'd love to cook something with or for you. Hummus is never a bad idea!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's one of the greatest websites/apps ever made. Think of the friendships and great experiences that wouldn't exist without it.. I've surfed on a few couches and hosted some people with my friend, and it's always been positive.

Hosting is a little like travelling without leaving your city, and seeing your home in a different way through the eyes of the people you're showing around. Plus you tend to learn a lot from them, so it benefits everyone, not just the person getting a place to stay and a new local friend.

Interests

I like a variety of sports - football (the Australian variety), cricket, indoor beach volleyball, bodyboarding, going to the gym, and long distance hikes. Also more relaxing things like reading, watching movies, good wine and being addicted to various TV series. And planning trips of course.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Client Liaison, New Order, The Cure, The Smiths, Cut Copy, Tame Impala, David Bowie.

Movies: Too many! Anything from Billy Madison to Christiane F (although I can't handle the never-ending flood of superhero movies).

Series: Succession is my favourite at the moment. The Wire might be the best of all time, but if I had to only watch one series for the rest of my life it would be The Office (UK).

Books: JRR Tolkien, Orwell, Harry Potter, Christopher Hitchens, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, some Dickens, Robert Heinlein, Stieg Larsson, Len Deighton, Michel Houellebecq.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was lucky enough to get into the old American embassy in Tehran, where the events from the film 'Argo' took place. Almost everything has been left as it was in 1979, so it was like travelling back in time to a really important turning point in modern history.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I'm an English teacher so I can help out with that, and anything you'd like to know about Australia.

Learn: All of the best books, movies, musicians, history, politics, some language, anything interesting about your country, I want to know it all!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help with English if you have any questions, and I'm very happy to (try to) cook something for you.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, Thailand, United Kingdom
