About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Being the change I want to see in this world...

ABOUT ME

I am Tom, 33 years old and I live in my own apartment in Eindhoven, a city in the south of the Netherlands, which is the 5th city of the country.

I decided to go studying again, so I'm studying Spatial Planning at the University of Nijmegen right now. I'm interested in spatial planning, urban development, traffic and mobility and love to visit other cities and see how they are constructed and how people get around.

Besides that, I'm active in politics. My motto is to be the change you wish to see in this world. I'm member of the City Council of Eindhoven for D66 (social-liberal party). The topics I deal with are mostly traffic and mobility, spatial planning and urban development.

PHILOSOPHY

"Be the change you want to see in this world." (Mahatma Ghandi)
That's what I believe in, and what I strive for really, and I will continue doing that every day. I want to help people to help theirselves. Change their minds. Show them how beautiful they are, which opportunities they have, how they can change their lives, to follow their hearts and to live their dream.

"Sometimes the road you're walking is more important than your goal."
Everything happens for a reason, at least that's what I believe. Sometimes you got yourself into something, and you think: why did I get myself into this situation? You just don't get it... Untill you realize that it was not the goal you were after, but the road you were walking to the goal, the things you learned on your way...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hope I can meet somce nice people in the upcoming few years. As a guide in my own country, but also in other countries in which I will be a guest :)

At this moment I can't host people. I noticed I got too many requests, I visited the website only once a week or less and I'm quite busy. So it's more fair to people to mention I can't host them in advance. Sorry for the moment...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have both hosted people and met them while I was on a journey myself. They showed me around in a few cities. That was very nice. As a host, I gave some advice to people which spots they could visit in my hometown Eindhoven.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen quite some places and countries in the past few years. The moment which still inspires me is the time I saw the Pantheon in Rome. I just fell in love with that building. Actually it doesn't even deserve the name building, it's a piece of architectural art! That moment is amazing: full moon, dark sky, the Pantheon in front of me, sitting on the steps of the fountain, the sound of the foutain water streaming, Italian street musicians on the background, surrounded by couples in love, hugging. Mmm, I'm melting when I think back to that moment!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mongolia, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom
