My name is Tong. I am a 17-year-old Chinese high school student who studies abroad in Florida, United States. I am a concert pianist at the same time.

I love making friends with people from around the world and get to know about all the diverse cultures, or just communicating with other people on different topics in general. Also, I love learning languages and traveling (even though I don’t get to travel abroad a lot). I always want to stay in every country in Europe for a month and just to meet local people and spend time with them.

I am a little bit shy when meeting new people. However, once we get know know each other more, I will become very talkative and funny. I believe that I am always kind to everybody around me. I am always the to-go person when my friends have problems. I love to have deep and meaningful conversations with others, giving them advice and receiving advice from them. I am curious about many things and am willing to listen to everything as it broadens my mind space.

One sentence that I wrote for myself: I dreamed to be someone else that is better than myself before, I want to be myself that is better than any someone else now.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It is so fantastic and fascinating that I can meet people from around the world on this app. Traveling becomes so much fun and convenient with the accompany of a local friend. Every time encountering a new person provides me an opportunity to discover new things and enrich myself. to Also, sometimes lack of money might be a reason that prevents me from traveling. It helps to solve this problem perfectly.

Interests

Piano is my passion.
Even though I go to the gym for exercise, I don’t really play a sport. I would like to try to start doing sports such hiking, skiing, skating, volleyball, rafting etc.
I love learning new languages... anything new languages that I found beautiful!
My interests are way more than you’ve ever thought and I am willing to try anything new (as long as it’s not harmful to others).

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC:
Classical music is definitely my favorite. Among all the classical composers, Chopin is the one that always touches my heart. Classical music makes up my everyday life.

All the classical composers that I love: Chopin, Mozart, Ravel, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Dvorak, Prokofiev, Beethoven, Debussy, Bach, Greig, Schumann, Haydn,
Scriabin, Vivaldi, Paganini, Scarlatti, Brahms, Sibelius, Shostakovich, Mussorgsky, Gershwin, Saint Saëns, Mendelssohn, Strauss, Schubert, Franck, Faure.

I am open to a variety of music, including jazz, pop, blues, contemporary. Basically I listen to all kinds of music (except rap music not usually).

MOVIE:
In terms of types of movies, I love watching romantic comedy, action movie, science fiction movie, adventure movie, thriller movie.

Some of my favorite films - I Am Dragon, Maze Runner, The Butterfly Effect, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter series, Mission Impossible, 007, Love Simon, The Sound of Music, Frozen.

BOOK:
Shamelessly, I love reading romantic novels and fan fictions about love stories, since I fantasize everyday. I read a lot of Chinese masterpieces, and now have started to read western literary classics. I don’t have a favorite book, but I do love reading and like writing stories and novels. Currently, besides those romantic novels, I am reading Brief History of Humankind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled with my best friends ever from elementary school every year during summer from 2013 until now.

Any trivial thing could be an amazing experience for me. There are too many amazing experiences that I have acquired.

Teach, Learn, Share

TEACH: I can teach you how to play the piano and talk to you with my understanding in music. I have successfully motivated some of my friends to listen to classical music and they transformed from not liking it to really loving it. I can introduce you to classical music and tell you where to begin if you are interested.

LEARN: I would like to learn languages, any language. I might not learn to speak it fully, but I will be content if I learn to speak a little bit. I like to learn new things, so I am looking forward to what you can bring to me :)

SHARE: I believe China is a relatively unknown country to some of you guys even though everybody knows it is BIG, so I really feel like sharing culture and stories about my home country with you. Also, I am happy to share my own stories and experiences with you. If you want me to share anything with you just let me know hahaha :)
