Sobre mí

Hey, I'm Tony! At 18 years old, I got my first real job. I worked until I was 27 years old. My day consist of going to work, getting home, eating, playing video games, and sleeping. Repeat that for about ten years and you have a person who never experience much in life.

One day while playing games, I stopped to ask myself what I was doing with my time. I realized I wasn't satisfied with my job and I was wasting my life away on things that doesn't matter.

That's when the biggest decision in my life came. I had an honest talk with myself and said, "You know what, I'm not fucking happy." Then, I followed up and said, "Fuck, I can't do this no more." That's where I went all out. I quit my job. I gave up video games. And I started doing things without a clear plan of what I wanted in life. All I know is that I needed to do something different. I wanted to get away from this repetitive, boring lifestyle. (Let me know if you're reading my shit and gets too cheesy or sappy. It's not the Notebook, but I'm trying really hard to make you cry.)

And so I did. I started doing things that scared me. First by going out by myself, next I started meeting people, then I started traveling to new places.

That was when I came upon my good friend Woncho back in 2013. He showed me what it was like to explore and travel. I learned a lot from Woncho and that opened me up to possibilities that I never knew exist. I became an open-minded individual, always looking at things differently. Left and right. Up and down. All around.

One thing I'm trying to get better at is to say "Yes" to everything. To know what I'm missing and what I'm not missing out on. So help me if you meet me in person and think I'm being too narrow-minded. I want to say, "Hey, I tried it and it was a very good experience." Or "Hey, I tried it, and it was fucking disgusting. But hey, I tried it. But I still don't like it."

Traveling with Woncho the first time - “Why does Woncho have the window to the car rolled down and playing music so loud? We’re in a middle of a crowded street, people are looking at us... This is soo embarrassing. What!!!! He’s dancing while driving too…. ughhh stop it please, I can’t take this level of embarrassment anymore.. This guy is too crazy."

Mulled-Wine: "Omg what is this, why does it taste like coke left out under the sun. Gross."

Indian food: "For fuck sakes, why so many spices on their food? The flavor is too strong. It's too much for me. I can't eat it anymore. But the masala chicken wings. Now that's good.”

Sweden tobacco Snus- “Sorry, I don’t smoke cigarettes. Say What? This doesn’t harm your lungs? Fuck it, let me try it then, thanks for this.” (Put the snus under my tongue) “What? Oh damn, I’m doing it wrong? Ohhh under my gum between my teeth. Gotcha.” (Ten minutes later) “What the hell did I do? It’s burning my gum and I feel like puking.” (Spits it out) “I feel weird now."

United Kingdom - London - "Wow, they drive on the other side of the road and they say the word rubbish. It’s strange, but it's freaking cool." Or "What... what did you say? Can you repeat that? Huh? Sorry I didn't get it, your British accent is a bit thick, can you speak proper English? Oh fuck, you're speaking English, my bad sorry. Can you slow it down.. ahh so that's what you're saying. Thanks."

Vietnam - Saigon: "Shit, I can't cross the street. So many damn bikes. Urggghh I'm never going to cross it... (two little kids walk through traffic).... fuck my life."

Vietnam - Hanoi: “I’m so alone. Nothing feels like home…” (First month in hanoi. No friends, anti-social, and just stayed locked up in the room wanting to cry)... "I miss my family and friends in America."

Thailand - Koh Phan Gan: “Okay, I got this. Them old ladies driving this moped bike like a pro. If they can do it, so can I. There’s nothing to be afraid of.” (Spent two hours practicing riding the moped on an empty road by myself) "This is soooo awesome!!!"

I'm always pushing myself outside of my comfort zone because I want to experience more in life. I want more adventures and I want others to also experience it with me.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

It is a good way to meet people who are open-minded, kind, and sharing. I'm grateful to meet such people who allow me to crash with them and to experience something new.

I'm open to meeting everyone and hope to learn from them. I also want to share my experience with anyone I meet.
