About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel to see the world as it is. That involves facing the bad as well as the good.

ABOUT ME

Very adventureous. Into trying basically everything as long as it doesen't come in under the label irresponsible. A live and let live attitude. Openminded-but also with a lot of views and opinions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well-just arrived here, so not much participation yet. But i hope to get in touch with lots of locals, and find other travelers up to the same as i am. And when i once in the future settle somewhere to work-i hope to be able to put up and show around those who happen to pass by.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far no couchsurfing via couchsurfing. But i have had a lot of funny "sleeping home at" experiences around the world. Truly enjoyable to see how people live-and meeting new people that way. In Indonesia i was practically adopted by a whole village and got guiding as well as a bed. In Bolivia i ended up in the home of a poor teachercouple. I got a mattress-they got an english lesson. In Iran i got into the tents of the nomadic herders for a few nights.

Interests

Do i have to list them all......other cultures. Nature-the creatures living in it and the amazing nature itself-from the mountains to the lakes to the forests and desserts. And of course the sea. Ive been in it scubadiving and on it sailing and kayaking. I have a facination for history and archaeology. And wandering around in desserted ancient cities (the middle east and Peru in particular is great for this) i find to be something special. I've been the only person in many such places and it it almost as i can hear long lost voices. I love to take photos-my camera is within arms reach even when i sleep! Horses are great-so are dogs. And elephants. I volunteered with them. I love food-and part of my travelobjective is to try everything i can get my hands on. With that i mean-everything. Im more into eating than cooking, though.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to sink down in documentaries (only problem is they always give me new ideas about what i want to do). I lke well made and played movies based on a real story-like the old version of the mutiny on Bounty. Pochahontas. Lawrence of Arabia. I often like movies based on second world war. Sometimes James Bond is a good guy to get company of. I watch a wide variety of things-but get bored-and irritated when things becomes rediciolously unrealistic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Boliva lowland-the day of my life. Started with a morningtrip in the swamp where we found several anacondas. So i went to lunch with my hands smelling anaconda. An amazing creature-a log of muscles! After lunch-taking y snorkelgear to a bay in the river. Pink river dolphins comming in to investigate. Some bumping me with their noses. Other grabbing my leg for a few moments with their jaws-before letting go. Then tubing downriver-getting free pedicure from scores of fishes. The afternoon: Swimming across the river-entering a sandy field teeming with alligators and kaymans-getting them close up-so close up that when one of them got enough of me and went into the water it accidently toutched my hand with its tail-giving me a cut witch i regarded more like a trophy than damage done.

And i remember standing in an ancient cemetery in coastal Peru-standing face to face with 2000 years old mummies. Only me, them and the wind. And i swear-swear-i could hear voices. Not trough my ears....trough--something. A strong experience that changed my view on certain issues.

On Iceland: having 30 of the really big whales around the boat. There was a feeding party going on.

On The Faroe islands-the harp and violin concert inside a seacave. The splashing sea being a third instrument. A magical experience.

Kayaking on the sea in a gale. Amazing display of- and first hand bodyfeeling- of raw natural power.

Handling my sailyacht (my home for 3 years) singlehanded in bad weather and relentless sea. Managing it and afterwards getting into a sheltered natural anchorage having grown quite a bit. It was my first multiday trip on my own.

The northern light of the arctic.

The fantastic beer experience of Belgium.
