About Me

Recent college graduate with a wandering soul!

I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Freiburg, Germany in 2013, which unlocked my wanderlust! I found traveling to be the best education I've ever had; meeting people and wandering cities taught me so much more than books ever did.

I have a degree in Environmental Studies and love being outdoors. I love learning how the natural world shaped human history, and how history has shaped the natural world! I'm passionate about the connections between food, health, and environment and am interested in how people in communities all over the world are approaching these topics. I hope to someday be mostly self-sufficient and have my own organic farm. For now, I'm bouncing around from farm to farm, learning lots of different perspectives on how to grow vegetables, fruit, and raise animals!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've heard such great things about couchsurfing from others, I want to try it myself!

I really enjoy meeting new people and sharing stories. My best travel experiences have come from connecting with interesting people and seeing places that are off the beaten path. Couchsurfing sounds like an awesome way to meet people and get to know the place you are in.

Interests

Nature: hiking, exploring, tree and plant identification, tracking animals, learning survival skills
Farming/gardening: growing vegetables and herbs, preserving them through drying and fermentation, and lots of cooking!
Shopping at flea markets and secondhand stores.
I'm a huge fan of dark chocolate and herbal teas.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love folk and indie music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Came face-to-face with a black bear in a field this year... we were both equally surprised to see each other there!
I've done a few outdoorsy things that are probably pretty crazy, like the time I was blindfolded and led out into the woods in the dark, and had to find my way back to camp using only the sound of a beating drum... or learning how to make fire without matches or lighters.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a native English speaker and know a good bit of German. I enjoy picking up little bits of other languages as I travel. I love food and cooking, and would love to learn some new recipes on my travels. I've done a lot of gardening and vegetable farming, so if you want to talk plants, I'm your girl! I have many interests and soak up information like a sponge, so I would love to learn about what you do and where you live!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Unfortunately not living in a place where I can host guests right now, but someday I hope to be able to!
