About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Since 2010 i've started travelling to art events-a residency(Capetown), a workshop(Jo'burg), two biennales (Venice and Dakar)and would like to go to more international art events, specifically documenta 13 as it's is only once every 5 years .

ABOUT ME

I've settled in rural Wales since '85, raised a family and developed my art practice again; going back to art college to do a degree before travelling back to where I grew up in South Africa to do a residency. i've been lucky to take part in an international artists workshop and hope to organise something similar in west wales so artists can work alongside each other and exchange knowledge without even having to be able to speak the same languages.

PHILOSOPHY

do as you would be done by.
life is not a rehearsal.
what's the worst that can happen?
live dangerously(not really!)
you can't take 'it' with you.
love the one you're with.
dust to dust.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I come from a family of communicators so i gues i like finding out about how others live and why we are what we are. I am also quite private in my own way and have my personal art as my retreat and expression, although my work is inspired by documentary pictures.I have strong belief in social responsibility and communal activity in the public realm.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

New, so none so far!

Interests

art life-there's agreat saying:art is what makes life more interesting than art.
i love film, documentaries, drama, music, dance, comedy and humour, fresh air, bicycling, walking, swimming, dogs and all the wierd and wonderful things i notice along the way-and take photographs of-people doing stuff, strange leftovers, remains, traces, bits and bobs in random collections that tell a story somehow, and writing too. and being very silly in emails.

Music, Movies, and Books

ooh too long to list.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked in Venice last year(2011) for 7 weeks at the Art Biennale-an amazing experience to live in the city and be paid to be part of such an extraordinary event.
I wentto live in South Africa as a child under apartheid, knowing what it was and saw how terrible its effect was on everyone, even those who didn't realise it themselves.

Teach, Learn, Share

i've lived an unusual life, so I'm told, and learned afew things about what makes people tick. i'm agood listener, though not as good as I was when i was younger, but I can be quite sensible and sensitive, and very serious.I speak acouple of languges which may help.i home schooled my daughters and always get on well with younger people.
