About Me

I'm an easy-going dude from the hills of California, and now I'm going to grad school in Santa Cruz. My folks were world travelers and I inherited that from them! Every year or two I get the itch and take off from my home and go somewhere new. I want to end up in education but I've done some programming for work also. I'm an extrovert and I love meeting new people and having fun.

Interests

I love games and new people! I know many (and love to learn) card games; I play soccer, ultimate frisbee, and basketball. I like beaches and mountains and forests and deserts and desserts too! I like biking and walking around new places (or old places) with people. I'm always interested in learning new things. I love live music and dancing, and I'm almost always down to go see a show, especially if I don't know the band. Also: space and dinosaurs.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love going to see live music, especially when it's happening outside. I tend to like music with guitars more than electronic stuff, but as long as I can dance to it I'm in. I'm into almost all the flavors of rock music, I dig hip-hop, and have had great times seeing electronic stuff too.

I don't watch as many movies as I used to, but I still like to go out to the theatre or sit and watch something at home. Some of my favorite directors are Quentin Tarantino, Darren Aranofsky, Christopher Nolan, Guy Richie, James Cameron, Denis Vilanalanvaeau (I know his cousin!)

I love to read books, the longer the better! Mostly I find myself in the Science Fiction / Fantasy world, but I've read lots of other stuff I've enjoyed too. Notable mentions include most stuff by Brandon Sanderson, Dune, Wheel of Time, Kingkiller Chronicles, the Culture, KSR's Mars Trilogy, Abercrombie's stuff, a lot of old school scifi (Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke). Also I've read a lot of Steinbeck (East of Eden oooh), some of Dumas, Steven King, Mark Twain, oh I could go on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've hiked to Everest Base Camp!
