ABOUT ME

'ALL' about me is asking for a bit much, no? I am originally from New Jersey in the US and all of my loud, crass characteristics can prove it - I live in the center of Europe now having finished my Ph.D. in Zurich - Still working here a bit longer and finishing all there is to do in this gorgeous country! I love to laugh - I smile a lot (and have wrinkles already to prove it) - I absolutely love to travel and hope that I never stop doing it - I also love hosting people, taking visitors around whatever city or country I live in - I ask questions (sometimes too many) - I love nature and water - Diving and Surfing are two of the best feelings in the world!! - However, snowboarding is a nice substitute during winters in this landlocked country! - I'm an organizer, whether its trips, parties or fieldwork (I LOVE IT) - I am so very in love with my Dutch Supermodel boyfriend, who incidentally also loves traveling ;o) - I 100% miss my family in New Jersey and all of my friends throughout the US - But I am so happy to be living abroad now - I consider myself extremely lucky and at this point in my life couldn't ask for anything more!

PHILOSOPHY

To have lived my life the way I wanted to live it and be able to look back on my death bed and NOT regret missing out on anything! And so far living my life the way I want to live it has been by getting a good education in a field that is interesting to me and is beneficial for society in some capacity. On top of that I have been seeing as many new and amazing things as I can along the way and meeting as many new and exciting people as well! All the while remaining an optimistic and friendly person on whom my friends can truly rely!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My boyfriend and I host often and try to give our surfers the best experience possible! Together we surf at least once or twice a year on our holidays and always have a great time! Since my boyfriend is so involved in the local CS community, I tend to get pretty involved as well - helping with the Zurich costume party, for example! We also try to reach out to the new people we see at monthly meetings and give tours or advice when needed! If you have an issue, question, or anything at all, don't hesitate to ask us :o) ...I love giving tips and advice and for the young travelers or female travelers I meet, I am always here in case they need anything!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I lived in Luzern my first few years in Switzerland and hosted a few people there before moving to Zurich with my boyfriend (even before I was actually in CS)! Together, my boyfriend and I have already hosted quite a few people at our new flat in Zurich as well. Also, together we have couchsurfed a few places in Italy and plan on doing more as we travel, of course. All of my experiences thus far with CS have been so gratifying and positive!! The people I have hosted have been some of the most interesting and honorable people I have ever met! And the same goes for my hosts - some of the most generous and sincere people I have yet to meet!

Traveling (or is that obvious?), Anything having to do with water is for me!! with Surfing and Diving being the most important! Meeting new people, Sharing laughs, BBQs, HIKING and SNOWBOARDING - two of the best things to do in Switerland!! Cooking and finding new recipes, Hosting parties, Jogging, Reading!!, Family, Teaching, Biking, Going out to eat and drink (in less expensive countries ;o) and in those left-over moments, relaxing at home...

First would be playing with very curious Adelie penguins on the ice in Antarctica! Second would be diving with hammerhead sharks in the Galapagos! And third is being an arm's length from a stalking leopard in Zambia! (I have a thing for animals and nature ;-)

I can teach you to surf and snowboard (not that I am a certified instructor, just a very patient teacher ;-) I can teach you a bit about oceanography, geology, or environmental science. I can share a lot about the greenhouse gas methane and why it is important and where it comes from. I can teach aspiring-scientists how to navigate their way from high school to university to graduate school. I would love to continue learning about other cultures and countries as I travel through them and meet people. The amount of knowledge you gain from simply speaking with people is truly priceless.
