About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have fun! Do neat things! Yeah!

ABOUT ME

(NOTE: This profile is for my girlfriend Traci and I, but i'm surfing alone this summer and have changed the name and photo so as not to scare away those who can only accept one surfer. Anyways, most of what is said for her holds true for me. Carry on, then!)

We be: Traci and Marshall! We were both raised in Manitoba - myself (Traci ) in a really small farming community and Marshall in a small city a short distance away. We share many interests, and generally just have tons of fun together.

Marshall plays music and writes silly songs about animals and food and stuff. When he's not doing that he's probably listening to other people sing silly songs about animals and food and stuff, or eating a burger. Or a pizza.

I have always loved to draw and paint, and am delighted by visiting art galleries and seeing what other people have created. I also love to garden and cook ( I will cook for you!! ) , and am very interested in food and land politics, so we support farmers markets whenever we can. We love hiking and biking too!! Marshall has a big love for ducks, and we frequently amuse ourselves at the duck pond. We dream of one day having our own hobby farm, where Marshall can lovingly tend to his flock.

PHILOSOPHY

Doing good stuff is good so do good stuff.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We surf with folks while traveling, and live in a big ol' house where other folks (or even the same folks!) can probably come stay if they're so inclined. I've lived in a couple of different housing co-operatives and loved the experience of learning from people of different ages and cultural backgrounds. It literally opened up a new world for me and i learned so much from my roomates. I'm hoping that CS can do the same for us, and we can be gracious hosts/ guests in return.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've surfed with some lovely people in Seattle and Olympia, Washington, and some other, equally lovely folks around Mexico. Everyone was real neat! Some took us for tacos and others for teddy bear picnics.

Music, Movies, and Books

All these things are very good things.

These are some good movies: Scorsese, Gilliam, Lynch, Jarmusch, Wes Anderson, Miyazaki, Dustin Hoffman, de Niro, and all that other good stuff we're supposed to like. Marshall like movies about children befriending monkeys. Informative documentaries that make us feel smart. Popcorn and soda makes this even more fun.

Music is the biggest and the best; neil young, bob dylan, flaming lips, yoko ono, adam green, tom waits, the pixies, the ramones, donovan, the bee gees, nilsson, blondie, dr. john, jonathon richman/modern lovers, ween, elvis costello, phil ochs, nick lowe, velvet underground, bowie, beck, sonic youth, the handsome family, gram parsons, daniel johnston, the kinks, kate bush, the pogues, michael nesmith, joanna newsom, the clash, dead kennedys, dead milkmen, evaporators, shins, beatles, stuff.

Books is good too; vonnegut, brautigan, kafka, kerouac, hesse, huxley, bradbury, sartre, douglas adams, tom robbins, wells, atwood, hoban...other stuff. Traci likes a lot of non fiction too - like gardening or cook books. Marshall reads a lot of text books about why we're ruining the world. Oh geeee.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lightning storms in the middle of Manitoba deserts, fireworks across the ocean, dozens on ducklings in our hands, rivers running through beaches in Mexico, Neil Young and Bob Dylan within two days of each other, baby turtles running to sea, millions of monarch butterflies, snorkelling with sea turtles and sting rays, stumbling about over ancient ruins, zany mountain donkey rides...

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll show you how to play dumb songs about dogs. We can share recipes, then make those recipes, and eat the results. I'll teach you some games you can play with ducks. We can share GOOD TIMES.
