About Me

Super Important!!!!
It is OK to send me a copy-paste, short, or super last minute request. If you're traveling/busy, you probably have better things to do than write a long personal request. Just please be honest and let me know expectations- if you just need a place to crash, or if you want to hang out and explore, etc.

I'm currently in the middle of an incredible trip around the world (waiting out the pandemic and studying Mandarin in Taiwan as of December 2020!), and I'm looking for (and finding!) happiness, inspiration, fun, and adventures!

ABOUT ME

I'm not exactly sure what to write here; as I've been traveling I'm learning a lot of new things about myself :)

I love trying and learning new things.

I love being outside. I love hiking, climbing, kitesurfing, reading, cooking, staying healthy, learning languages, talking, and much more.

I think my life goal is to always be happy and share happiness with others. I'd really like to change the world, but I'm still figuring out how, and still working on changing myself to be a better person, too.

I've been extremely fortunate and lucky all my life. Good health, enough money and food, and amazing and supportive family, just for starters. I'd like to give back, or pay it forward, somehow.

I hope to travel for the next few years (hopefully I don't get tired of it!) and don't know what I'd like to try next :)

PHILOSOPHY

"Here is no better than there. Once you get there, you simply find another here and another there." (This is something I really need to remember because I'm always looking for "there" and forgetting about "here".)

"Don't do what you think the world needs. Find something that makes you come alive and go do it! Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CouchSurfing is truly one of the coolest ideas I have ever heard of. It gives me faith in humanity and I wish everyone could live like it. If everyone could CouchSurf and hitchhike, the world would be such a better place.

I've been lucky enough both to host and surf via CouchSurfing, and have made many lifelong best friends. Every CouchSurfer I met has been an amazing person with their own stories and outlook. So I certainly hope to keep doing it throughout my life!

Interests

Honestly, I think it would be shorter to list what I'm not interested in. I love learning new things, I always want to pick up a new talent or hobby, and I want to see more of the world. I have no idea what I want to do with my life because I feel like my interests are always changing.

I love the outdoors, sports, cooking, reading, traveling, board games, beer, ice cream, computers and just enjoying life. Most recently, I've taken up kitesurfing and am quickly becoming addicted. I've also recently discovered that I like learning languages and have been studying Japanese.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books and reading. Some books that have really influenced me:
Sapiens
Flow
In Order to Live
Predictably Irrational
The Alchemist
Chicken Soup for the Soul

Other books I really enjoyed:
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Harry Potter series
Anything written by Michael Crichton
Wheel of Time series
360 Degrees Longitude
...and many more!

In general, I don't spend a lot of time with music or movies. Though I do really like Disney Movies a lot, and Studio Ghibli. Current movie favorites: Big Hero 6, My Neighbor Totoro, The Matrix, Avatar.
I listen to Japanese music in the hopes the words get stuck in my head and help me learn the language.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Have seen/done:
-The Insanity workout! It's a 2 month workout that is incredibly difficult, I thought of it as "the best thing that I would never ever want to do again." It's really motivational though, and after finishing it I truly felt like I could do anything.

-Run down a volcano, the Cerra Negro in Nicaragua. Definitely one of the best experiences of my life.

-spent two and a half months hiking around New Zealand

-Been to more countries than I am years old (and a life goal is for this to always be true)

-See the Northern Lights- I recently got to do this up in Yellowknife! Though now I want to go back and see them again, and stronger.

-See a solar eclipse- I did this in August 2017 in Salem, Oregon! It definitely exceeded expectations :)

Want to see/do:
-Climb the highest mountain on a continent, but probably not Mt. Everest, it's a little too dangerous. Thinking Kilimanjaro?

-Be fluent in another language- I want to know what it's like to think and breathe in another language. Hoping to achieve fluency in Japanese in September 2018.

-A bicycle tour around Europe

...and many more!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to learn mountaineering, Chinese, paragliding, and anything you'd like to teach me :)

One of my biggest current goals is to learn new recipes from other countries. I'd be happy to buy the ingredients and we can cook something tasty.

I'd like to get better at surfing, mountain biking, salsa dancing, meditation, yoga, and many more.

I can teach you an ice cream or cheesecake recipe, how to cook, juggle, rock climb, some fun card games, and hopefully some other things too.

I can share stories, happiness, and anything I have. I'd also love to practice Spanish or Japanese with you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Anything and everything. I'm currently obsessed with making ice cream and will be honored if you try every flavor in my freezer and give me your honest opinion. I like sharing stories and opinions.
