About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm a Brit who wants to travel the world and teach english

ABOUT ME

I love to travel, and have been to 156 UN member states or 161 countries - more than three quarters of the world - travelling through central America, through eastern and southern Africa and across Russia, SE asia, throughout the USA, and a number of other places. I would love to visit every country in the world. I've also worked in every continent but Australia.

I'm British and I'm more than willing to tell stories about my travels, or about England.

The most important person in the world for me is my girlfriend.

PHILOSOPHY

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did.

So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover."

- Mark Twain

"It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness"

- Peter Benenson

"Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns, so that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of the entire tapestry."

- Richard Feynman

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to travel, and usually stay in hostels. A friend of mine recommended this site to me, and I thought I'd try it out.

Interests

Main interests are travelling, reading and spending time with friends. But I'm also partial to whitewater rafting, kayacking, fire breathing, parachute jumping and all sorts of things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The thing on my life that I am most proud of is that I successfully argued for a policy change at International level for an NGO.However given this is a traveler website, I thought I'd fit in and list some of the places I've been to:Traveled across the United States overland from New York to North Carolina, to Niagara falls, to Chicago, the grand Canyon, Los Angeles and all the way to San Jose.Trekked with Gorillas in Rwanda, and rafted on the Nile.Taken the trans Siberian railway and stayed in a yurt in Outer Mongolia.Hiked up table mountain, paraglided in the Namibian desert, and whitewater rafted at the foot of Victoria falls.Given a speech at a friends wedding in Uzbekistan, and passed through Kazakhstan and Samarkand.I've travelled extensively throughout western and eastern Europe from the Mediterranean coast to the icy waters of Norway.

I've travelled extensively through the Middle East, seeing the Pyramids at Giza, Petra in Jordan and the heart of the Arabian desert. I've visited the most dangerous country on earth, Somalia; as well as Iran and Iraq.

I recently traveled across the subcontinent, helping monks paint a golden Buddhist temple in Burma; seeing mount Everest; rafting through the Himalayas, and seeing the Taj Mahal.

I've also crossed the whole of Latin America all by land and sea. From Brazil all the way south to the most southerly city on earth: Ushuaia in Argentina. Then further south by boat across the terrifyingly stormy Drake Passage to Antarctica, seeing whales and penguins, and magnificent starry skies, then continuing north back across the sea to Chile, crossing the entire continent over half a year, seeing all the major sites such as Machu Picchu then crossing by desert islands to Central America, then crossing back to Venezuela, up into all of the windward islands of the Caribbean and then back to see the Guyanas.

I've been lucky enough to have had amazing experiences across dozens of countries. Seeing lions in the wild in Zambia; seeing a live active volcano up close in Nicaragua; skydiving in the UK and met many exciting and unusual people.
