About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the most out of seeing the world before settling down

ABOUT ME

My passions in life are travel and charity work. I am a pretty outgoing person and easy to get to know. I love a great conversation (especially about travel) over simple nibbles and a bottle of wine or chips and a cold beer.

One of my favourite places in the world is Kenya, it is a place close to my heart and the reason I am starting my own charity. But when I'm not travelling, I work 2 jobs (recruitment & waitress) and love training for triathlons.

I am extremely grateful for the fun life I have and having the ability to travel as extensively as I do. I have had enough 'wow' moments to last me 7 lifetimes. Please feel free to check out my blog at www.travelwithtarsh.blogspot.com which will give you a little more insite to who I am and what I do.

Once returning to Australia some time early 2012, I plan to put some permanent roots down and, in time, provide a couch for fellow travelers. I look forward to being in a position to extend the same hospitality that has been given to me all over the world.

PHILOSOPHY

Although I believe in fate, I also believe we only have one shot at this lifetime and not all things come by chance. Take the occasional risk if it means it will make you happy.

I also believe everyone should visit Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp at least once in their life (to really understand how tough like can be). When I feel I have been hard done by, I take myself back there. This really puts things into true perspective.

I also believe in helping those in need if we are in a position to do so. One person can make a difference but together we could change the world....

Interests

For the past 2 years, I have been involved in charity work, predominately in Kenya. I learnt a lot about volunteer organisations and as a result have started my own trustee which is in the final stages of registration.

I like to keep fit, I do triathlons and love road riding. I would love to do more hiking and trekking. I love talking travel and hearing happy, inspiring stories.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a bit of all types of music and love books based on true life events or biographies. I also like non thinker drama/romance novels on the occasion, easy to read in a bus, plane or train.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Undoubtedly one of the most memorable experiences was witnessing my first birth in Kenya, then going on to build a birth clinic in the slums of Kawangware and assist in an additional 16 births. Having no medical background or children of my own it was an extraordinary experience.

Also topping the list was when I went trekking in Nepal. There were 6 of us that raised money for the Fred Hollows Foundation and to see what a difference it makes to the Nepalese community is so very touching. This was also what inspired me to do more. In the remote areas of Nepal I visited, it was refreshing to see such pure, beautiful people that exist in this world who do not know greed or hate - people who honestly know what it is to live without luxuries we take for granted.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you are in Nepal and want to give something to the children - give pencils, textas or crayons instead of lollies.

And in Kenya or Turkey try to accept a gift or food that is extended to you, they are genuinly lovely people that can easily take offence if you say no. Something small gift in return is not expected, but tremendously appreciated.
