I currently work in sales in Houston and get to meet people of all backgrounds through my position. I love a variety of music, movies, books, and also enjoy fitness and running.

Since my couch surfing profile is for both me and my girlfriend, Alena, I'll tell you a little bit about her as well. She is also an avid music and book lover with a passion for culture and religions. She grew up in east Texas, graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a B.A. in English, and is currently a paralegal in Houston.

Alena and I will be experiencing hundreds of awesome bands at the Osheaga 2015 music festival in Montreal this summer. We are looking to couch surf because in addition to our love for various music, we enjoy getting to know people of different cultures and experiencing those cultures first-hand. What better way to do so than through the hospitality of those willing to open their homes to yet unmet friends? Though we may be new to couch surfing, we are excited at the unique opportunity of immersing ourselves in Montreal culture and building relationships (as opposed to just staying in a hotel room!).

Of course I'm a victim of pulp culture but at the very core, music speaks the loudest to me; it's almost impossible to recreate through any other medium than music the hair-raising, heart-quickening, hip-provoking response elicited by intertwining melody and harmony.

Alena shares a similar bond with music and literature, taking particular pleasure in short story authors like Rick Moody and Alice Munro and in creating her own short stories as well.

The both of us love attending concerts (mainstream and underground alike, but especially the lesser-known artists) and traveling the world.

Between the both of us, our favorites are:
Music: House of Heroes, Florence and the Machine, Manchester Orchestra, Chiodos, Beastie Boys, Glass Animals, Dead Sara, Alt-J, Agnes Obel, and tons more across rock, alt-rock, folk, electronica, pop, etc.

Books/Authors: The Little Prince, Perelandra, The Forgotten Garden, Out of the Silent Planet, Johnny Got His Gun, A Boy's Life, Sylvia Plath, Tolkien, Toni Morrison, Edgar Allen Poe, and an enumerable amount of poetry, short stories, and even the personal scribbling of a journal.

Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Miss Sunshine, Pulp Fiction, 28 Days Later, Trainspotting, Across the Universe. Dramatic and emotionally riveting cinematic masterpieces aside, it's always enjoyable to get stupid with a terribly entertaining B-movie or Summer blockbuster.

Travis: backpacked across Europe, skinny-dipped in the Mediterranean, finished first, finished second out of 40,000+ participants in my first marathon.

Alena: taught English as a Second Language to kids in Shanghai one summer in college.

I love to cook and very few things bring me greater joy than putting on an apron, turning up the tunes, and bringing out the cutting board for some hot action in the kitchen. Alena and I can create some pretty superb delicacies between the two of us. We're also both considerate and hygienic guests that would be more than willing to contribute with chores to show our appreciation to hosts. Both of us are big animal lovers and would enjoy getting to know any pets just as much as their owners :)
