Overview
About Me
I love the outdoors. When summer comes it's time for kayaking, mountain biking, backpacking, hiking, 4 wheeling, fishing, mountaineering and rock hounding. During winter its snowboarding, snow shoeing, ice fishing, and general snowy fun times. I prefer to eat vegan, but will splurge occasionally (once a month) because. hey life is just too short. I live a minimalist lifestyle in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and love nature. As a student of geology, I am constantly in awe of the beauty of our mother earth.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am beginning to experience life outside of my comfort zone. I love seeing new places and trying new experiences because that's what makes life awesome. I am on couchsurfing because of my sister's wonderful experiences, and the opportunity to get to know new people. When I do travel, I hate tourist locations. I would prefer to discover the hidden gems of a region which often takes lots of research and exploring. With couchsurfers as guides, I think that would only enhance my travel experience.
You know we were born to do more than just pay bills and die. There is a whole world out here and millions of interesting people, each with their own interesting and unique story. It would be boring to just stay in one place and see the same people. Adventures can fill your soul, but getting to know people can fill your heart. Couchsurfing gives me the opportunity to do both.
Interests
To fill my life with wonderful stories that I can fondly remember, I also like deep conversations, and science...I really like science.
Music, Movies, and Books
I love all music, except most modern commercial pop music. I played the bass in orchestra and jazz bands growing up, so pretty much any orchestral, jazz, instrumental music is in. Currently I am pretty fond of folk music. Some bands I like: Papadosio, Rage Against the Machine, Os Mutantes, Aesop Rock, Air, Arctic Monkeys, Led Zepplin, Punch Brothers, Yonder Mountain String Band, 311, Deftones, The String Cheese Incident, Cake, The Mars Volta, Dirty Projectors, Pretty Lights, CCR, Eagles, Dr. Dog, The Zombies, CSN, Tim McGraw, NOFX, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Rancid, Explosions in the Sky, Millencolin, Sigur Ros, Modest Mouse, and so many more. As you can see that is quite the varied list, so any music can be good music.
Movies are not my forte, except documentaries. I enjoy documentaries about social issues, environment, spirituality, consciousness, and anything that makes you reexamine the way you perceive life in general or specifically. I have recently watched The Minimalists, The Human Experiment, anything about space, Food Inc, Food Matters, Happy and many others I do like old witty comedies though: Airplane, any Monty Python, Naked Gun...
Most of my books are nonfiction pertaining to nature, rocks or the intricacies of the human condition and life in general. Oh, and science. Anything about new research is right up my proverbial alley. I just finished university so I have begun a new quest for books. I just finished The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Keen (about the origins of the periodic table), The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (classic), and The Orion Mystery by Robert Bauval (about the stellar cult of the Egyptians and the pyramids). I just started reading 1491 by Charles Mann (about the pre-columbus American continents)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Skydiving with nearly my entire family. Stepping one foot out of the plane then the other, no greater rush have I experienced. Somehow my sister and I convinced our parents to do it too.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach the subtle science of geology, rock formation, mountain building, and everything associated with the earth. I also enjoy wood working and building things. I am not quite an expert at anything, but dabble in many things. As my friends call me, I am a "lumberjack-of-all-trades"
I am interested in learning everything. If I could live for a thousand years I would be content trying to soak in the knowledge of the world. I mostly enjoy learning about this perceived reality we call human experience. The best way to do that is conversation. Everyone is writing their own story, and talking with them is like getting to read a chapter.
I can share a zest for life, a passion for people, and a compassionate heart, the rest is up to you. To be able to really share, both parties must be willing participants.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share a great attitude (only you can decide how happy your life is). I consider myself a very generous person, and have lots to give, I'll even give you the shirt off my back (if it's not too cold). I also enjoy conversations and learning different cultures and viewpoints. By experiencing the thoughts of different people you can become a more complete person.
