About Me
I just came back from helping build a school in Guatemala from tires, bottles filled with trash and other recycled materials. I was there about 5 months. The organization is called Long Way Home and can be found at lwhome.org. Check it out!
In 2015, I completed a grant where I developed and implemented a program to help students stay in school by helping them find jobs and plan for their careers. It was astoundingly successful, but funding was cut, and I decided I wanted to work internationally and for organizations that are sustainable and community based.
Living and working in smaller cities have given me the opportunity to reinvent my career often, which has been one fascinating adventure after another; I've been an sex educator, an STD investigator, a lobbyist and a phlebotomist. I've worked in schools, prisons, shelters, and community centers. I started a movement to build and supplement libraries in the local prisons and homeless shelters, and I coordinated an art and theatre program. I advocate for better transportation options for my community, and rally for education.
Integrity is important to me, and I generally stand up for what I think is right even (and often) when its unpopular. I've been called an wise old-soul-I've seen a lot of tragedy in my work, and I think its given me a sense of what is truly important in life. I am extremely playful and grateful. I am a woman who considers the impact of my actions, purchases, etc on the people, animals and environment, philosophically, politically, and biologically. I am meat free, car-free, anti-consumption (not a shopper), creative, thrifty and community minded. I am involved with work, school, volunteerism and fun-life is short, and I've got a lot I want to do before this journey is over! I don't like to lament about how things are as much as I like doing my part in making this world a safer, more loving, healthier and peaceful place.
I love talking to other people about what they have done and share ideas, so please reach out if you want to strike up a conversation, particularly if you live or will be in Oaxaca. Thanks!, always landing a hand.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My boyfriend and I are heading to the Republican and Democratic Conventions to promote our new project called Votewise.net, a platform where voters and politicians can connect without advertising dollars getting in the way! Check out the page for a quick video all about it. Anyway, if anyone is available to "couch" us in Cleveland or Philadelphia during these months, we would be eternally grateful! Quite frankly floor is sufficient, we can bring an airmattress, lol.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiking up a volcano, learning to dance. I was an STD investigator, nicknamed a Jobs Lady and formerly nicknamed the condom lady for my work in sex ed.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a resume artist, so if you'd like a resume makeover, I'd be happy to do it! I also write fantastic coverletters.
On occasion, I help parents with the "sex talk" as well, having worked in women's health and HIV/STD prevention for several years.
I can also teach English, computers, gardening, and all sorts of public health material. I would love to learn more Spanish, French, German and/or Esperanto.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can write resumes, cover letters or give career advice. I would be happy to teach English or practice English with a host. I know a fair amount about computers as well. I would certainly help with cleaning or gardening. I love cooking too, but I am vegetarian, and don't know the first thing about cooking meat!
