About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To preserve life as we know it. maybe improve it when possible
ABOUT ME
I live to hike and backpack. I'm also a traditional Portland Cycler. I bicycle about 10 - 20 miles a day. I'm 53 with the mind of a younger guy. I like to travel as inexpensively as possible, so I can do more traveling rather than make corportations rich in the process.
PHILOSOPHY
I'm an individual who subscribes to the Portland OR phylosophy and indemic in the Greater Northwest US, Be introspective personally and for the community. Learn to live with each other and love your neighbor. I love to cook and love to eat, but am not overweight, so it doesn't look like I do. While I like to enjoy a solo hike cycle trek or backpack, it's even more special when you can share it with another.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Come visit our fair city of Portland, I like to visit with people from all over the world and the country. I can treat you to a cup of coffee and maybe some walks around the city or hikes in the forest.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've recently crossed the USA west to east on a bicycle and then car and cycle side trips east to west. This was an awesome experience in so many ways and an absolute hightlight was the great people who shared their homes or living spaces and a slice of their life with me. They were champions of my cause and in every case a truly wonderful experience. Without their contribution this cross-country educational tour would never have been possible. Hats off to all my couch surf hosts 2011. see: IFARAHEALTHCHALLENGE.org

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy everything from opera to country, from hard rock to swing to even rap on occassion. That may amaze people but i'm mostly into the passion that a good entertainer has and how they exhibit their talent and passion through acting or singing or writing. It's about sharing their gift and life experience.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have seen the wonders of nature which are too numerous to even list. I have seen hope for health in the eyes of the poorest of the poor around the world. If people who live in abject poverty can have hope then no one should be without hope. I've seen the first innoculations of new vaccines to treat malaria, TB and HIV and it is truely amazing beyond description. Even the camera can't capture that moment as it represents itself in that space and time.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can learn as much from a person in another state as I can from a person in another country. There is nothing more sacred or more important than leaning about each others lives and struggles. I always get more than I can give in communication with others, as I've learned to be a listerner and only comment where I feel I may be of help. My greatest regret is that I didn't join the peace corp. I am humbled and am honored to have interviewed for community TV over 500 leading scientist, activists and researchers in the field of HIV and infectious diseases worldwide and placed them on TV and internet for the world to see. Hope for life comes from understanding life and those that improve health and cure and treat sick people all over the world.
