About Me

I am a 20 year old University student studying Writing, Spanish, and Graphic Design in the American Midwest. I have a passion for travel and art, and would love to make a career combining these two loves.

I am also passionate about social justice issues, particularly issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, and I would love to volunteer around the world with and for LGBTQ+ organizations in all different countries.

If you host me, I would love to share conversation and get to know you and your city through your eyes. I'm fascinated by good story telling, and I'd be happy to swap stories with my hosts. Truly the best way to learn about yourself is to learn about others.

I also love art, and if you're active at all in the artistic community in your area, I would love to admire your work and the art of your community.

Above all, I am excited to learn from you, educate myself about cultures, and share in the human experience with people from all walks of life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This Summer 2017, a friend (@Bre Legan) and I are backpacking Europe. It is important to us that we are able to tread off the beaten path of tourism and really learn about the cultures around us. We would love to meet you somewhere along our journey and swap stories and inspire one another.

Music, Movies, and Books

Honestly, I just really like nearly all music. I definitely want to diversify my music tastes globally during my travels, so please share some of your favorite artists from your country with me during my stay.

Some of my favorite artists (in no particular order): Lorde, Hozier, Sia, Beyoncé, Imogen Heap, Alt-J, Troye Sivan, Frank Ocean, BØRNS, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers, Disclosure, Of Monsters and Men, Adele, Sufjan Stevens, Bleachers, Melanie Martinez, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, Sam Smith, Pentatonix, Nicki Minaj, Jack Garrett, The Hamilton Cast Album, MUNA, Tycho, ANOHNI, Owl City, Phoebe Ryan, Julieta Venegas, Jesse y Joy, Mikky Ekko // Dance, Electronic, Folk, Indie, Pop, Alt, Rap, House, Rock & More

Travelers should listen to City by Ciaran McMeeken. The perfect on the road song.

I am not as into movies as I am music, but I like watching films that make you think, and you can rewatch multiple times and draw different meanings. Here are some of my favorites: Her, Moonlight, Room, Dallas Buyers Club, Juno, Brokeback Mountain, Carol, Now You See Me, Inception // Oscar-bait, LGBTQ+ Films, Indie

As a writing major, most of my reading is done for classes, but when I have the chance, I try to read for fun. I'm currently making it my goal to read more books for fun, and here are some of my favorites. Books: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, Ariel by Sylvia Plath, Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, Harry Potter Series, anything by William Shakespeare // Creative nonfiction, books of poetry, classics

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

To date, the most amazing thing I've done is study Spanish language for a month in Ecuador through my university. Prior to the trip, I already had the itch to travel and experience culture, and that month solidified this need to see the world. I love Ecuador and am fascinated by Latin America and cannot wait to return.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Anything from the collection of trivia facts that I know about everything from U.S. Presidents to current pop stars, cooking (if we aren't learning about the local cuisine), storytelling, photography

Learn: Anything you can teach me about your culture, your perspective, your life, and yourself

Share: Music, food, laughs, conversation, experiences

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversation about history, art, politics, writing

I'm a rather good cook, and I'd love to help out in the kitchen

Stories about travel and life. People tell me I'm funny.

If you'd like, I do photography and you could model for me as we explore the city together
