About Me

I've never liked writing "about me" sections because I don't like talking about myself very much, but "when in rome" I suppose. I am a senior at Arizona State University studying English and working toward becoming a teacher. I am originally from Santa Maria, California, a quaint farm town nestled between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo on the California Central Coast. I am the youngest of six children and have two wonderful parents. Although many would categorize me as extroverted, I thoroughly enjoy alone time to help "recharge my batteries." Being kind, respectful, and well-mannered are the things I care most about, and hope to always be.

Interests

I just really love art, any type of art. Although, I must say, I'm not too hip to the visual arts like painting and sculpting, but I still enjoy going to a museum and checking them out. I love expression in all forms. Originally, I was a creative writing major at ASU, but now I'm doing this teacher gig so my writing has become a hobby. I write and perform spoken word poetry, and would absolutely read some after a night of good conversation, and perhaps a couple glasses of wine. I also love to play guitar, although I'm not very Good, it makes me happy. My guitar follows me everywhere and I'm always willing to jam!

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC: Above all else, I love music. I do not discriminate between "genres": good music is good music. A few of the artists I love are: Grateful Dead, Radiohead, D'angelo, Bon Iver, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Chance The Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, The Roots, Sufjan Stevens, Vampire Weekend, Wilco, Animal Collective, Black Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Tool, Primus, Dr. Dog, Father John Misty, Girls, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sly Stone, Eddie Hazel, Stevie wonder, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, The String Cheese Incident, Umphrey's Mcgee, Phish, STS9, and of course all that Jazz, plus so much more.

BOOKS: I love to read, although I don't think I spend enough time doing so. Some authors/books I like are: Walt Whitman, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Catcher in The Rye, Song of Solomon, Hemingway, Tim O'brien, Mark Twain, Cormac McCarthy, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, any music Biographies/autobiographies, and more

MOVIES: After making the above lists, I don't really feel like making a large lisy movies that I love (I may get back to this later). If you are a big movie buff then I'm sure we can have a great conversation. Off the top of my head: There Will Be Blood, Chinatown, Easy Rider, Inception, Before Sunrise/Sunset, Good Will Hunting, and much much more

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen tons and tons of great live concerts and I'm very proud of that. One of amazing thing I've done is go to South Africa and visited with an AIDS orphanage to bring them clothes and just hang out. We traveled all throughout South Africa to put on basketball clinics for the kids that live in townships. We also went to Easter service at a church in one of the townships and that was so moving. I'm not religious but the faith that these people have is palpable, so it's hard not to be affected by it. Overall, the spirit exuded by the people of South Africa is so warm and kind, I would absolutely recommend traveling there to anyone.
