Overview
About Me
I love Minneapolis and love showing it to people. I also love traveling, especially when it's augmented by the hospitality and vitality of cool couchsurfing hosts. It feels a little funny having to sell yourself as a good and interesting person in this bio, but I suppose it's a necessary hassle for CS to work.
I think through a fair amount of surfing I've learned the delicate balance between being totally down to entertain myself and being totally down to hang out, depending on what works for the other parties involved. I love getting to know people and I love exploring by myself.
My general strategy in life is to maintain the freedom and low overhead to chase what interests me at the time, to go full steam ahead when something catches my fancy, and not mourn it when it passes. That and spending as much time as possible with the people I really like.
I used to be a newspaper reporter and now work in environmental communications but am not particularly professionally minded -- my professional ambitions are basically to find a job I like enough, where I can be myself, and leaves enough time, energy, and money to do whatever I'm interested at the time in a way where I don't have to try to make money off of it. I've been pretty lucky with that approach!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Have both hosted and surfed somewhere between "some" and "many" times.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I surfed a bunch on a solo trip around the world in winter 09/10, meeting awesome folks in Sydney, Cairo, London, and Marseilles. I've used it in the U.S., especially for being on tour. I've hosted a bunch of people in Minneapolis.
Interests
Writing, reading, music, biking, traveling, exploring the city, the good people I know. I'm in a hip hop group, Glow Mechanics, that takes up a lot of my time and energy these days.

Music, Movies, and Books
Hip hop first but like a lot of everything. You're welcome to dig through our records!
David Foster Wallace is my favorite writer. I also like Aldous Huxley, Don DeLillo, Tim Kreider, Toni Morrison, and try to read any and all good long-form journalism.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lots of traveling experiences tied for first -- solo trip around the world in '09, biking the Canadian Rockies in '12, the Boundary Waters, music tours through shitty midwest cities, and a million little moments all over the place.
Countries I’ve Visited
