Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To summon the courage to quit my job and travel the world.

(Mission accomplished - I recently quit my job in London and am living in Colombia).

ABOUT ME

This is the hardest box...

I currently live and work in London, but am a country boy at heart. I tend to jump in lakes and rivers and ramble through fields and forests whenever I get the chance. I think this is why I live on a boat in the heart of London (when I'm in London) - as close to civilisation and the wild as I can be at the same time.

I was until recently working as an in-house filmmaker at Reuters, producing documentaries and news pieces. A few months ago my girlfriend, Faye, and I decided to take the leap and move to Latin America to work freelance. We've based ourselves in Colombia, and are spending a year or so travelling around the region, making films and exploring.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't believe in a perfect world, either before or after now, but do believe that this one isn't really that grim at all. In fact I think it's pretty good. I don't believe in god, but wouldn't be terribly upset if I found myself in heaven. I don't believe in doing things on principle, despite the great press that "highly principled" people get, as every situation needs a fresh perspective rather than a pre-made template.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I couchsurf wherever I am in the world, and I offer my couch or a spare room in London when it is available.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A fair bit - Nottingham, Salzburg, Berlin, Maastricht. Also hosted a few people in Bristol.

Intereses

I go to beautiful and interesting places either with friends or on my own. Other interests include music - I play drums, double bass and various guitar shaped things. I have played in a few bands and the odd orchestra and it's always fun. I am keen on cooking, and am collecting skills and recipes as I go along - it is a fairly recent enthusiasm. I also like growing plants - an extremely fulfilling and soul-satisfying way to wile away many hours. I love to see new places and meet new people, and especially love communicating with people who don't speak English, despite my ineptitude at learning foreign languages.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Hitchhiked from Bristol to Venice, from Paris to Salzburg, from Salzburg to Berlin, and from Berlin to London.

Explored the hills and valleys of the Valencian countryside with my adventuring partner / girlfriend Faye.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

For anyone who doesn't speak English perfectly, I do intend to become an English teacher at some point in life, and there is no time to start like the present. Current experience mostly includes teaching random hitchhikers with no shared language skills. I also have some basic building skills and some culinary tricks up my sleeve. I could also teach guitar, drums, or double bass. Although the only thing I would be likely to have with me whilst couch surfing or travelling would be a ukulele. Any budding ukuleleists care to have a jam?
