Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed through Central America, SE Asia, and Australia. Every single person I've meet through CS has been wonderful; every experience memorable.

Interests

I love the outdoors - it's where I want to be. Hiking, climbing, permaculturing, foraging (food, trinkets, raw materials), fishing and exploring - and taking pictures of all these. If I'm stuck indoors I'll be cooking, curing, brewing, or canning, madly.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: the time travelers wife, into thin air, the river why, the little prince, animal farm, jerusalem creek

Music: I enjoy all types of music. radiohead, kid cudi, spoon, queens of the stone age, aaron copland, deltron 3030, allison krauss, yeasayer, brooke waggoner are some that come to mind.

Movies: donnie darko, american beauty, good will hunting, shawshank redemption, forest gump, something moving

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the fall of 2009 I was able to float the grand canyon as part of a nation-wide ecological survey I'd been working on that summer. Despite the altered flow regimes, the nonnative fish and plants, and the exclusivity of the system, the grand canyon is by far the most majestic place I have ever experienced. I spent 18 consecutive days and nights with awesome people, working together to accomplish the refreshingly simple goals of everyday living on the river (cooking, cleaning, sleeping arrangements, packing), without the nag of the "modern world". Camaraderie, along with a hefty dose of scenery, desert heat, and rapids, made this the best trip I've ever taken. Seriously.
