About Me

CURRENT MISSION

TO MAKE EVRY DAY COUNT

ABOUT ME

At my age, there is long history !
Married and teaching at age 21. Family life, 4 chilldren, teaching until aged 50, all fairly normal, but 1966-68 teaching in West Indies, really opened my eyes to the world.
Started to build a sailing trimaran on my 45th birthday, and at 50, quit teaching and started a world cruise, ten years full time liveaboard, N Atlantic, W Africa,Brasil, all W Indies, Florida, Cuba.
Wife for almost 40 years killed on bicycle in Hampshire, 1997, after we sold the boat. BIG HOLE ! Six month Atlantic cruise on a sailing monohull.
Bought another trimaran and began cruising with Audrey, (now remarried) for fifteen years, but only during the UK Winters. USA, Caribbean again, and all Central American countries. Sold boat again in 2010 in order to travel BY LAND in new areas.
Using local transport, with only small backpacks, for five months in each of the last two winters, we have now covered much of S E Asia, and loved every minute, and all the people we have met on the way.

PHILOSOPHY

My wife's sudden death aged 60 and very healthy, brought home to me just how tenuous is our hold on life here on earth. There is so much to do and see, and in such a short time that there is no time to waste. Do it now, or possibly not at all.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Music, Movies, and Books

I am afraid that I find very little time for fiction reading, other people's imagination. Music is my constant companion, usually "golden oldies", Reggae, Rythm and Blues, and anything with a good beat. I have over 200 hours of The King Elvis.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sailing an ocean with the stars only an arm's length away.
Seeing new earth form in a volcanoe at night in Hawaii.
Marvelling at the variety of life forms, on land and under the sea.
Loving and being loved.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have spent a total of 29 years teaching the principles of good DESIGN, practical thinking and making, fitness for purpose, and good behaviour towards ones peers and elders. I still often learn something new. I enjoy learning from everyone I meet.
