ABOUT ME
I like to teach myself things, even if I have formal learning on the subject as well. If I meet someone who speaks a language that I don't, I'm usually inspired to learn their language. I have a lot experience in learning languages, so can perhaps help with advice about that topic.
Speaking of languages, I tend to swear more than I ought.
I like to travel around, take pictures of nature, read books, and listen to ghost stories. I love animals: cats, dogs, chickens, snakes...almost anything except spiders, but even they are cool in their own creepy way.
I'm not very good at sarcasm, but I enjoy absurdist humor and funny stories - even and especially irreverent or inappropriate ones! :-)
I have a very dark sense of humor. It's also a dry sense of humor. So it's dark and dry, like a desert at night. But it's also funny, so it's like a clown stranded in a desert at night.
I tend to go be on the more relaxed, small group side of things. I'll go to a club but much rather prefer small gatherings of good company.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host people and when I get the chance I hope to surf more.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've only couchsurfed once. It was in Germany and I've since stayed in touch with my host. We found a common interest in languages, cultures and traveling and look forward to meeting up again.
I have hosted several people so far, and all of them have been positive and fascinating experiences. People who have the open-mindedness to participate as hosts or surfers tend to be among my favorite flavor of individual.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Awakening to the Natural Self, Dune The Power of Now, What Dreams May Come; books by Tom Clancy, Stephen King, Michael Crichton; grammar books, dictionaries
Music: Hans Zimmer, piano music, electronic music, music that has an earthy, wooden sound to it (no bands come to mind, but like the wooden flute found in some Native American music, or the didgeridoo)
Movies: Films by Spielberg, the Coen brothers, Kubrick; Dances with Wolves, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Downfall (Der Untergang)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once stood under a tornado as it was spinning in the clouds. It never touched the ground (which is good because my grandparents' house was right where it would have it) and I was so curious I felt no fear. I could look right up into the core of it; it looked almost exactly like the eye of a hurricane, only with more pronounced walls.
Teach, Learn, Share
Despite being kind of absent minded, I am a good listener when people are telling me something valuable to them. So I can share space with them.
I can share an enthusiasm for languages and other cultures that I have seen. I can share stories since I often find myself being the group's designated story teller.
