ABOUT ME

I love to travel and meet other travellers. I'm pretty easy going, like to experience new things, and have a good sense of humor.

PHILOSOPHY

When I am 80 years old and sitting on my sailboat, I want to laugh at the crazy things I've done in my life. I also want to make the world a better place for having been there. Life is short - it's important to be fully present for it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've done my share of crashing with friends, but haven't had the formal CouchSurfing.org experience as a surfer. I have surfed off the coast of Ireland, but that's a completely different story...

Interests

I run, sail big and small boats, bicycle, canoe, camp, cross-country ski, and am studying QiGong - a moving meditation. My down time is spent listening to music (jazz, blues, classical, 70's rock), reading, meeting with friends, gardening, and cooking.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - I tend to go for pure entertainment. Action adventure, sci-fi, some drama. I love to read, although lately I've been feeling like I've accomplished something if I get through the week's New Yorker before the next one comes. Music - classic jazz, easy blues, classical chamber music. I'm sort-of stuck in the rock music I grew up with - 60s and 70s.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I visited the Taj Mahal during a full moon. I stayed in a Buddhist monestary in Kyoto over New Year's - and listened to the monks chanting in the early morning hours before dawn. I learned (or at least took lessons) how to scuba dive in Belize. I used to run marathons.

I taught a senior-level landscape design class at a local university for a dozen years.
