About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet and network with new people to help with an upcoming international adventure

ABOUT ME

Check out my website: www.toSAandBeyond.com

I just graduated from Drake University (Des Moines, IA) and quickly headed to the Pacific Northwest for a job!

I absolutely love my new city! The views, on clear days, are spectacular and everything is within an easy walk or bike ride!

Living in Portland has afforded me the fantastic opportunity to be outside all year round whether it be for hiking, biking, kayaking or just going for a jog.

I grew up in the midwest and consider myself a lifelong midwesterner at heart.

I have played soccer (football) all my life and can never get enough whether I am lacing up the boots or watching some international action live!

PHILOSOPHY

Life is way too short to be serious all the time. I enjoy meeting new people, all kinds of people. I think everyone has a story to tell and knowledge to share and I like getting to know all of it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

During winter break 2008, while my two best friends and I were all together bowling, we decided that we needed to take a trip together before we all started into our careers. We put our intentions down in writing on a bar napkin and all signed it, that legally binding document hangs on my wall currently. We promised each other we would travel until none of us had any money left, at which time we would return to the states and begin our careers.

Thanks to some incredibly lucky fortune, we won tickets to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa through the FIFA Lottery. This means we will be in South Africa for the duration of the tournament, June 11-July 11 and so we will be looking for couches wherever we can. After the Cup, we plan to head to Europe until our funds are depleted.

Obviously, couch surfing will help save us immensely on lodging costs and help us prolong our journey so anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated. All three of us are extremely considerate and never afraid of hard work. We are all more than willing to help out around the house/apartment in anyway we can to "pay" for our stay. We also hope to meet some great people along the way, people that we hope to call friends after we part ways.

We have no specific itinerary for South Africa or Europe so if you would like to volunteer a couch anywhere in either of these place around the time we will be there, your generosity would be greatly appreciated and rewarded, and I promise you will not regret it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The love that national team supporters have for their football clubs is simply wonderful. Football has an awesome power to bring the world together over a shared passion. I had the remarkable chance to witness this comradery at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and I cannot wait to be part of it once again in 2010!
