About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet new people, make new music, eat new food, get more vouches!

ABOUT ME

Love music (making, performing, listening to), playing drums/guitar/bass/voice/keyboard/laptop, food, cups of tea, bicycles (riding them and fixing them and convincing others to ride them instead of their car), more cups of tea, time with my 10yo son (he lives with his mother most of the time), late night dancing in the kitchen with cocktails and good friends, cake, flights of fancy, delusions of grandeur, pipe dreams, being totally unrealistic. Inspired by ratbags and trouble makers the world over, who have their own idea about what freedom and justice mean. Mostly work with children in various settings, also in environmental education at CERES, teaching school groups about energy, water, ecology, waste and the like. Somewhat disappointed that my current lifestyle and obsessions (ie university, travel, music) make it hard to be very active in other meaningful pursuits like protecting old growth forests, tackling the nuclear industry, lobbying for more bikes and less cars in the world, stopping genetic modification of foods, general anarchist/libertarian ideas. I've worked on all of these in the past, do what I can.

PHILOSOPHY

Life after death? Why wait? I'm a generally positive person, slightly cynical but mostly I'm the annoying one who's trying to look on the bright side when someone is having a meltdown. Wary of popular things, especially culture, religion, though occasionally get sucked in. Like to fix things and keep them until they're old and threadbare, feel awkward with shiny new things. Have difficulty trusting white men in grey suits, especially politicians, real estate agents, lawyers, newsreaders, bankers, gurus, most people on the television.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, I've stayed on many couches but none through CS. Lovely couch available here though! I've been a member of a few CS groups and am looking at participating in some.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have had one German stay 2 years ago who has ended up a good friend of us all. I have since stayed with her in Kreuzberg and had many adventures with her in Berlin town. I've hosted much more than surfed so far and they were all positive experiences, this year I might correct that imbalance and get on some couches. A number of friends are current couch surfers, one even married someone they met on CS! Still trying to get references from some of them...:(

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

*Stood on a rocky escarpment looking out over hectares of the wetlands of Arnhem land while dozens of irritatingly dim tourists would not shut up and said things like 'Where are all the animals?'. It was amazing even despite that.
*Along with a group of friends, used my body to delay work on a Uranium mine (called Jabiluka) in Kakadu National Park and draw international attention to it. Eventually the mine was stopped, but it took years.
