About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I just wanna live, man.

ABOUT ME

I'm a peaceful, quiet guy who wants to meet new friends and travel. Sometimes I just want to make art and music all day, unfortunately money needs get in the way of that, so I'm also a full time waiter and delivery driver.
Some people may find this interesting, but I grew up in a mormon family and was a mormon until I was 20 years old. I even taught sunday school for almost 2 years.
Right now, however, I am just trying to learn new art techniques and work in different mediums. If I can learn another language and a different type of music, thats a bonus.

PHILOSOPHY

"Do what you want, because you're gonna do it anyway."
I don't think this is a good philosophy, or one to live by if one is an impulsive person, but I do believe it is very true. If you really want to do something, in any aspect, you work in that direction and accomplish it, right? I think its important to have this philosophy in a big picture kind of way, too.
I guess my purpose in life, or my function, is that I don't have one. Do I need one?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I generally take care of myself while I'm travelling, and do whatever in my power for whoever is hosting me. When I have a place of my own, eventually, I want to become a host. The idea of helping someone in their travel through life is something, I think, worth doing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I lived on a couch in Provo Utah for a month or two, but currently I'm living on a couch in Tacoma, as an apprentice for a professional tattoo artist and painter. I enjoy it, and I want to keep learning wherever I go.

Interests

I am an artist and a musician, and I enjoy talking about both art and music. I don't really like talking about politics or religion, because I only have negative things to say about them both. This may sound kind of broad, but anything abstract, artsy, and sometimes just aweful catches my interest. For example, if I were to find a VHS tape at a thrift store with a crazy title like "Space Aliens Attack Amazon Women" with an ugly ass rubber alien fighting an enormous women with big hair 70's style, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Music, Movies, and Books

I could go on for miles on the music, movies and books I'm interested in. To put simply, I like the movies put out independantly, or localy, because they put out movies with mainstream ideas but have very different styles, or have abstract writing in their dialogue. I really enjoy movies with a history behind them, like movies before my time or historical fiction, but I also like movies with no big name actors. If I had to watch a movie on a deserted island of my choice, though, would be Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I grew up watching that movie, no joke, at like 3 or 4 years old, and I still love it.
Music, however, is an ever evolving thing. Whenever someone shows me something I think is interesting, I'll listen to it. Or if its a lame pop song, I get into the artist and listen to a couple albums they have put out. I'm a sucker for pop music, but I also give other music a chance, like anything really. A friend of mine got me listening to techno and house music, and my family shows me indie and hipster music all the time that I've learned to appreciate. I grew up listening to oldies because of my dad, like 50's pop to classic rock during the 70's, listened to punk rock and grunge in high school, and got into indie stuff and 80's pop after I graduated and have been picking up all different genres since.
I always give horror or scary story books a chance, because I haven't been disappointed yet and I like the feeling of suspense and terror my imagination comes up with while I'm reading a good story. History, not about a nation but an unbaised retelling of a race or ethnicity or tribe, is also really cool and interesting. I wouldn't say I like reading fantasy books, but I do like fairy tales and urban legends, also ancient legends told by natives from all around the globe.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met Peter Frampton once while working at an outside live theater/venue in southern Utah, and I was surprised how short he was. I also got to talk to one of my favorite bands, Lightning Bolt, when they came to Utah and got to talk to the drummer a bit about stuff and the bass player about his gear. I also lived in Park City, Utah while the Sundance Film Festival was going on in 2012 and 2013. When I was little, I stayed at Robert Redfords ranch out in Utah somewhere because he knew my grandfather and my aunt and uncle work for him during ski season. I also got to talk to all the band mates in Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, and got to talk to the lead singers wife for a bit. I hate to name drop, but thats about all I have seen on an universally appreciative scale. I won't mention religous things I've seen or experienced, because I think I saw what I wanted to see.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to paint with acrylics, oils and watercolors, and can draw anything when given enough time. I can teach basic guitar skills, and how to play a bass guitar, and simple drum set instruction. If anyone wanted to start a crappy band, for example, and didn't know how to play an instrument, I'd be the first to offer my skills and join the band. I also know how to tattoo, the english language pretty good and how to power slide on a longboard. Shoot, I don't know, I can also get my head over some things and can help others figure things out.
