About Me

Hi! I'm a game designer, artist, karaoke enthusiast, Burner, and orderer of things on the menu that I haven't heard of.

Please check my home information before requesting :)

Vital stuff:
- I don't smoke cigarettes
- Animal lover
- Not a Trump fan
- Open-minded with almost anything else besides the above

I like to keep things simple, though am considerate of social identities and inequalities. Balancing activism and kindness is important to me. Diversity is awesome and I am on a perma-journey to meet with and learn from all that diversity! Communities, conventions, and travels are some of the best things in the world!

Make and fix things when possible rather than consuming and trashing! There is already so much junk in the world, I hope to contribute as little towards landfills as possible.

I'm flexibly sociable and a loner. So I enjoy both hanging out and making my own way around.

As a personal art project, I draw people's spirit critters as gifts for travelers I meet. I've gifted over a hundred odd spirit critters so far. Would love to meet you and gift you yours :) See them here: http://www.spiritcritter.tumblr.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's really not just about the money, though I think the sharing economy is important to our environment and world. I've on occasions spent more on hosting people and being hosted than on hotels and dorms :) For me, couchsurfing is foremost about meeting interesting and different people, and spending time with them, and experiencing a locale through their experience, rather than just checking things off tourist lists.

I also like to explore my own city through foreign eyes. Spending time with visitors feels like traveling myself, and that's wonderful. If I happen to have time for you at the time I'd love to show you around!

Oh, and to collect people's spiritcritters :)

Interests

I'm a mixed bag of geekery, community, and makery. An active participant of the local game development community.

Boardgames! Though I'm a game design snob so I *will* tell you why some games suck and how I also can't stop playing them :) (and can't bear to play others :P)

I don't get to do enough karaoke.

I love exploring different foods, especially street food, and enjoy cooking with friends (because I suck at cooking but am a mean chopper)

A podcast junkie - it's an amazing way to live, learn and explore the world with my mind while doing the stuff that needs doing.

Sewing is the best thing in the world, I love it so much. Haven't bought any retail clothing in YEARS and loving it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Done four Afrikaburns, the annual week-plus experimental temporary society in the Karoo desert. I volunteer at the Sanctuary, an organisation of harm-reduction, where I was privileged to be able to help people through difficult experiences surrounded by dust, fire, psychedelics and life. Sharing the dust and the fire with my new-found desert family and perfect once-strangers was and will continue to be a magical home away from home for me.

- Changing my life from corporate to freelance,... ,...
