About Me

I'm a freelance filmmaker living in London, hailing from the Netherlands. I've been working in broadcast for a few years now, currently working on education films- meaning shorts about sabre toothed cats and classification.

Hobbies include Thai boxing, improv comedy and writing- and I'm a terrible but enthusiastic surfer.

I love being introduced to different cultures and customs and can talk about history and films until you beg me to stop. If you want to stay at mine, please mention the word history so I know you've actually read my profile!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The best part of travelling is meeting new people- particularly locals. Couchsurfing has made it so easy to do this! I always find the best experiences happen when you stay with locals, like when I discovered improv thanks to Sarah in Chicago- which has since become a staple in my life.

Interests

I love to write, enjoy history and research, travelling, Bharata Natyam (Indian classical dance), reading and can now surf thanks to Australia. (This is interesting mostly if you know that my profile used to say "I really want to learn how to surf!" )

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a lot of favourite films, among which Back to the Future (my all-time favourite) cliched though it might be I love Shawshank, 500 days of Summer, Pan's Labyrinth, Corpse Bride, and, like I said, many more.

Musically I'm a fan of Ray Lamontange, Duffy, old-school Britney, Beach House, Kendrick Lamar, The Kinks, Paolo Nutini, etc.

Currently reading Guns, Germs and Steel and re-reading On the Road.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Filmed hyena's. We went down to the Southern Omo valley and then to Harar and Addis, and it was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my life. People don't realise how amazing hyenas are! They're very clever and actually hunt more of their own prey than lions, who scavenge the majority of their food. Lazy bastards.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know quite a bit about history, various things really that stuck with me over the years, I'm a decent cook, I can teach you Bharata Natyam, and of course a few languages or a little about the film world as I dabble in that.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A thousand hyena facts; sketches; Indian snacks and recipes (they're never as good as when my grandmother makes them, but I think I'm the second best snack-maker in the family)

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, British Indian Ocean Territory, Croatia, Ethiopia, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Netherlands, United Kingdom
