Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Doing the work I am passionate about and taking a different perspective

ABOUT ME

I am passionate about horses and helicopters, travel quite a bit during the year and was introduced to CS by a friend. With my husband and family, I live on an old farm in Westphalia and can offer limited hosting due to our remote area (no public transport access from here).

PHILOSOPHY

I like this quote which sums it up pretty nicely: "When you dare to dream, dare to follow that dream; dare to suffer through the pain, sacrifice, self-doubt and friction from the world." - #Laura Schlessinger. I am very grateful for all the gifts in my life and I believe, happiness is product of continuous work and improvement, persistence and a little moment of luck as well.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new to CS and can offer limited hosting for the time being. Please note that my husband and I live with our family on a farm, so there will be horses, dogs and cats around - just to make sure you are not allergic to animals and like the idea of visiting a small farm build in 1880 (slightly renovated by now! ;-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My very first surfing experience took me to Dallas, Texas, USA and my generous host LiChing visited me the following year at my home town in Germany - we became friends, sharing experiences like horseback riding and paragliding in the French Alps! Great experience!

Intereses

Horses: Horseback Riding, Horsemanship, Translation of books (English into German), Teaching Riding and Groundwork with Horses. Learning Aikido and especially Aikido for Horsemen (Circular movements and using energy in body work), Cranio Sacral Therapy. Helicopter: Flying professionally in Germany and some other countries in Europe. Looking forward to exploring flying helicopters in the USA on a more frequent basis. With my husband: we like to snowboard and ballroom dance in our free time.

Música, películas y libros

My favourite books are mostly inspiring ones, challenging the status quo. Two actual good examples are Seth Godin (Tribes, Linchpin) and Steven Pressfield (The War of Art). I also read a lot of horsemanship-related books, for example Buck Brannaman or Ray Hunt sharing their horse wisdom with today's riders. Movies: I love movies with a message and I like many movies with Kevin Costner for this special reason. In pieces of art like Open Range, Message in a bottle, Perfect World and Postman there are a lot of things to be discovered in between the lines. I also love movies off the big screen, for example: Gran Paradiso, a movie where a group of gangsters unwillingly helps a disabled boy and despite a rough start, they get to be a real good team. Music: A wide range from cowboy classic (Country is really good for riding!) to Musical Soundtracks and Charts. Voices like Katie Melua's are pure joy to me!

Algo increíble que he hecho

Both horses and helicopters never cease to amaze me: A well-known horseman, Tom Dorrance, used to say: "It's all about feel, timing, and balance" and I found that to be very true. I have friends who like the quiet surroundings of the farm that much they come here for a short vacation: take a walk, get in touch with dogs and horses, take pictures of the nature around - a very good place to disconnect from a world turning all too quickly. Well, it's not so quiet anymore when I land with the helicopter in the backyard, but that only happens a few times per year and therefore should not be disturbing ;-)

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Teaching, Learning and Sharing information is very important for me. I could share my knowledge of the past ten years of both active horsemanship (I give lessons to riders and non-horse-people on how equine bodylanguage can be interpreted - let's say it's "horsewhispering") and active flying (anything you would like to know about helicopters and flying as a profession). Likewise, I am happy to learn about your adventures in life and the way you see the world. I am a student of Aikido and Tai Chi and had an introduction to Zen, so lifelong learning is incorporated in my belief and I am looking forward to take a different perspective.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I can show how horses communicate using body language only and how humans can learn to read this and interact with horses without having to use coercion as it has been done so often in the past. A horse is a very sensitive animal and is willing to follow once the human showed he knows what he's doing. A famous horseman once said: "Horses don't care how much you know until they know how much you care". This is also true for humans, by the way ;-)
I can teach German and put people in contact with a network regarding aviation.
