About Me

Often alone, never lonely. I am an adventurous eater with a child-like awe (i.e. easily amused) and enjoy long walks on the beach. I feel most alive and at home while out in nature, however, I also love crawling up into a cloud of pillows and blankets and watching Netflix all day. Not big on the night scene, unless food is involved, occasionally I can partake in dance party magic and am always up for a meteor shower or celestial event. Though still an omnivore, I think it is important for people to do whatever we can for Mother Earth and do my best to uphold that ideal. I will also leave your place in better condition when I leave, if possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to experience a place and its people by immersing myself in the environment by seeing and doing things I cannot do anywhere else.

CS seems like a great way to spend time in a new area while having the ability to get to know people who live there and their local knowledge, creating connections around the world through sharing knowledge and experiences, all of which really makes traveling more meaningful.

Interests

Nature is my happy place. I love being outside, though not an adrenaline junkie, more of a stroll and jaunt kind of person.

I enjoy being creative and having to problem solve, though do not ask me for help on a crossword.

Teaching has always been a calling and it is very important to me to teach relevant, real-world concepts, especially when they are tied to the environment and ecology.

Having grown up with dogs and cats as my siblings, I absolutely love being in the company of animals and honestly, prefer them over people any day. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy people and think they are fascinating, though my energy levels get drained easily when I am around a lot of them due to my introverted tendencies so it may just seem like I am staring off into the distance, while I am really people watching, pondering deeply, or, I may really just be staring off into the distance.

Music, Movies, and Books

Classic rock...lots of old stuff, ska, punk, funk, 80s/90s, reggae: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Santana, Less Than Jake, Sublime, Foo Fighters, Breakestra, Bob Marley, The Specials

Fairly easily entertained by movies, though lean towards independent and not into intense action/scary nightmare stuff: Harry Potter series, Hayao Miyazaki, Amelie, Baraka, nature/food/science documentaries, Dazed and Confused, The Wall, Fantasia, Peter Pan, Up, The Addams Family, The Princess Bride, Clueless, Breakfast Club, Moonrise Kingdom, OITNB and Stranger Things of Netflix fame.

Books that I can learn from, laugh at, ponder intensely, or those with beautiful/entertaining pictures. I am usually in between several books, mostly nonfiction, and rarely finish any...but love libraries and what books stand for.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Exploring an old shipwreck off Roatan in Honduras...getting to penetrate the whole wreck and dive through narrow galleys and "stand" behind the wheel while seeing random little artifacts in the corners of the sunken ship and huge groupers and tuna on the outside as they swam by the portholes.

On a different dive in Hawaii an octopus thought it would be fun to attach itself to my head...yea, so much fun.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would probably love to learn anything you have to teach me. I once heard we have something to learn from everyone with whose eyes we meet and I honestly believe that. I enjoy sharing stories and experiences, or even peaceful silent time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My awe, passion, and enthusiasm for the natural world (and food), education/science talk, dish washing/cleaning skills, dance partner (on occasion)

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Ecuador, Egypt, Honduras, Hong Kong, Israel, Jordan, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Thailand
