About Me

I'm an Australian guy in his twenties who loves travel and meeting people from different places. I lived in America and France for a year each, and I plan to live other places when I finish grad school. I live with my family when I'm in Australia, and they're fantastic.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd love to meet up with people visiting Adelaide and show them around. Hopefully one day I'll have a couch I can offer, too; at the moment, I'm living with family.

Interests

My main interests are:
- musical theatre (listening to, going to see, and participating in.)
- video games (an eclectic mix, including Left4Dead2, Civilization V, Final Fantasy 8, 10, 12 and 13, Legend of Zelda: OoT, Europa Universalis IV, and an online text-based game called Lusternia: Age of Ascension.)
- language-learning (I'm a native English speaker, and my French is mediocre, but I'm fascinated by different languages and can talk about them for hours.)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love musical theatre; in the year I lived in New England, I visited New York five times and spent way too much on Broadway. Apart from that, I'm not up-to-date musically (with any genre, really), but I tend to like a lot of what I hear.

The same goes for movies: there's lots of good stuff around. Sci-fi, psychological thrillers and clever horror (as opposed to gory horror) are usually on the menu, all else being equal.

I don't get to read as much fiction as I used to, although I do prefer to keep up with the news in text (rather than video) form. I like sci-fi and fantasy; my favourite author is Isaac Asimov, and I do enjoy Stephen Baxter and Matthew Reilly. I've also read and enjoyed Isobelle Carmody, C.S. Lewis, Gregory Maguire, George R. R. Martin and Roald Dahl.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The best thing I have ever done is live overseas for a year. I had a fantastic time, learned a huge amount, and made some lifelong friends.

Teach, Learn, Share

As mentioned elsewhere in my profile, I'm fascinated by languages. I'm a native English-speaker and an intermediate French-learner; I'd definitely be interested in meeting up for a conversation with anyone who speaks French and/or wants to speak English. I've also got degrees in Chemistry and Psychology.

I like to think that I'm very open-minded and tolerant, especially since I have several good friends whose worldviews I strongly disagree with. Indeed, I enjoy in-depth discussions about beliefs and the like, and think it's a great way to work out what you believe (if not what's worth believing!)
