About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live in 12 countries over the span of 12 months.
ABOUT ME
Emily: Our friends would say that we're a little quirky, but definitely fun to be around. We like to be active and try new things. Our friends would also say that we are gone a lot... we love to travel!
Scott: Immediately after graduation, Emily and I had a choice to make. Stay in place for at least the next 4 years, work, start a family, and play "keep up with the Joneses"; or potentially lose our jobs and all sense of financial security by traveling around, visiting places, and experiencing things we've never done. We chose the latter, and haven't looked back since.
We have a travel blog that outlines our mission for the next while of living in 12 countries in 12 months. Check it out at twelvecountries.com.
PHILOSOPHY
Travel isn’t about the tourist traps, corny cliche picture taking, or listening to the hotel concierge. It’s about absorbing as much of the culture around you as possible, and truly discovering what life is like in another’s shoes.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We initially decided to try couchsurfing.org on a whim. We have lots of family in many places around the US, and it's been nice being able to stay with them when we travel; but sometimes it's nice to meet new people, an opportunity you don't much get when you're with relatives. Though we are new to this, we expect that the experience will be a great one, and we look forward to visiting as many places as we can--and hosting as much as possible, too!
Interests
Emily: People photography, design, listening to good music, travel, Honda CR-V's, thrift shopping, being active.
Scott: Listening to good music, playing as many instruments as he can, singing, HDR processing (and other photography techniques), Corvette Sting Rays (particularly '69 editions), nature, reading, goofing off, talking to strangers.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow series, Sword of Truth series, Lord of the Rings, Bourne series, almost anything written by Michael Crichton and Clive Cussler, Animal Farm, Farenheit 451, Harry Potter; several nonfiction books, such as Made to Stick, Why Him Why Her, biographies, textbooks (no, really), wikipedia.
Music: many different styles appeal to us, but we are extremely picky about songs. The styles that we jive with best tend to be indie rock such as british post-punk revival (Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, The Kooks, The Fratellis), throwback blues rock (The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Raconteurs, Mutemath, Portugal. The Man) and indie alt (Spoon, The Killers, Format, Fun., OK Go, Crash Kings); additionally we really enjoy the larger scale sounds of bands like Coldplay, Frightened Rabbit, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Maccabees, Explosions in the Sky, and even some Dave Matthews. We branch into a lot of folk-based rock, as some of our favorite artists are Kalai, Mumford and Sons, Ben Harper, Ben Howard, Bon Iver, Actual Tigers, and more. In other non-rock genres, Scott enjoys from time to time electronic dance music (Skrillex and the like), rap, hip hop, and R&B (Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Jurassic 5, Chali 2na, Usher) and other unique and sometimes weird sounds. Country, unfortunately, is a genre both Emily and Scott can't really grasp on to.
We like to watch a lot of movies, but lately have not had any time to. When we do, we like comedies, actions, dramas, and just anything that will let us have a fun time. We hardly go to the movies, unless it's a dollar theater.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In the past 3 months we have traveled to and through over 30 states, seen and visited half of the US's major cities, driven at least 7500 miles, gone cross-country twice, and eaten every flavor of food America has to offer.
Teach, Learn, Share
What we can learn: Just about everything. When it comes to knowledge, we prescribe to the thought of Socrates when he claims that he knows nothing compared to what there is to know. Learning is a way of life for us, and we revel in the ability to do it daily.
What we can teach: What we do know, though relatively little, we most willingly impart. Scott loves to teach about marketing companies, marketing yourself, and accomplishing challenges and goals; he also teaches guitar and other musical instruments, philosophy, and anything and everything about computers. Emily's major was teaching at its core, and more specifically, teaching by engaging the audience. She loves helping others learn more about travel and is great with youth.
