About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see as much as possible, and meet awesome people along the way (: I want to experience all life has to offer.

ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Tyler, and I'm currently a recent graudate from UCLA, and was on exchange in Hong Kong at HKUST and Shanghai's Fudan University. I absolutely love traveling, meeting new people, and experiencing new cultures. To me, the best places to be are the places that no tourist goes. I really love meeting new people, and look at Couchsurfing as an opportunity to not only help out those in need of a place to stay, but also as an opportunity to make friends along the way.

PHILOSOPHY

Live now, plan later, and go with the flow of life. Ride the stream where it takes you, have few expectations, and let life take you where it wants to, with wide eyes and an open mind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to couchsurfing, but I plan to host and surf.

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE movies. Especially more cinematically artistic ones. The most meaningful and metaphorical movies, the better. Tree of Life is my favorite thus far, but any indie film with more than a hint of realism gets me.
Classic cinema is also a favorite. Citizen Kane, Tokyo Story, etc.

As for music, see: The Sound You Need.

As for books, two authors that best describe my taste are Virginia Woolf and Cormac McCarthy. House of Leaves is an all time favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cliff diving was crazy for me (in the Philippines, Thailand, and Hong Kong, woo!), especially because I can't swim. Oops... It was fun, though! And I survived.

Riding in the back of a truck in Thailand at 2 AM when my hostel was closed and the woman working construction in the building next to us saw us and knew enough English to say she had a friend with a hotel, and get in the back of the truck. It was totally fine, and the woman was awesome. But the scariest part was holding on in the back of the pickup when she'd fly over bumps on the speedway.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love teaching people anything I know, and sharing information about experiences around the world. I also love language exchange! I would learn every single language if I could, but right now I'm trying to focus on Mandarin, Cantonese, Sign Language (American), and Spanish.

I also know a lot about food, and sharing great experiences with local holes in the wall with great cuisine. Let's go grab some bites!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation, smiles, laughs, and a meal! I don't have too many cool skills but hopefully these simple things can make me worth hosting ~
