About Me
Hello!
My name is Tyler. I am a late 20's student, working hard to finally finish my Bachelor's. I'm studying poetry and environmental humanities. I like to travel, as I believe strongly in getting out of your bubble and seeing the diversity of people everywhere. I grew up mainly in the Midwest, then lived a lot on the East Coast in my early to mid twenties. Now I'm studying in the Pacific Northwest. My hobbies include bike touring, wreading (notsic!), fermenting everything I can, wild food foraging, plant propagation, farming, backpacking, people watching, philosophy, and questioning all of my assumptions. I'm super easy to get along with, and I'm quite an extroverted person, though I also like spending many hours alone reading. I bike and walk everywhere, rarely rent a car, and don't own one.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on couchsurfing because of capitalism, and the increasing inability to afford a bed or couch to sleep on through hotels or Airbnb. I live on a tight budget, but also value experience and travel, so couchsurfing is my ticket to making that happen.
Music, Movies, and Books
American Folk music is my favorite genre, but I sincerely like stuff in all genres. Favorite artists include My Bubba, Yo La Tengo, Chopin, Man Man, Elizabeth Cotten, to name but a few.
Some favorite movies: Ex Machina, Arrival, anything by Ghibli, and most sorts of independent art movies.
Literary interests: Kurt Vonnegut, Ezra Pound, Gary Snyder, Lucille Clifton, Camille Dungy, Gertrude Stein, John Steinbeck.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Moved via bicycle.
Teach, Learn, Share
Fermentation! Armchair philosophy.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Stories, lots of stories! Food, I love to prepare food, and spend more time doing that than probably anything else.
A listening ear, I really like to just sit and listen to whatever another person has to say, people are beyond interesting even when they're convinced their life is boring.
