About Me

MISSION
My mission for traveling is to experience as many different cultures and lifestyles as possible and to learn from them.

I would also like to spark passion in people who lack it. Passion is everywhere and amazing for those who see it.

PHILOSOPHY
I believe in science and that religion was by created by leaders to keep control of people.

I do think religion has some merit when it comes to ethics, therefore I identify with Buddhism mostly. Mediation is an amazing tool to quiet the mind and there is science to back that up. I loosely practice yoga and mediation and I plan on completing a zen mediation retreat sometime this year. One of my current goals is to have a daily practice of yoga, mediation, and reflection by the end of this year.

LIFESTYLE

I can't sit still during they day, I must be doing something active, biking, exploring, walking, snowboarding, hiking, anything outdoors.

I like to drink but not get drunk, I can have amazing time with minimal substances, a trait I value in others as well. I do know how to let loose and would not consider myself a prude.

I am a feminist, please do not try to impose gender roles on me, I believe everyone was born equal regardless of gender. However, if you wish to take me out to dinner because I do not have a job like you and you want to share an experience with me, feel free to do so. Just do not expect anything except for my company.

I do not have closed views on anything, nothing surprises me, and I refuse to give myself limits in regards to what I am capable of.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am backpacking the world and my budget is not so small that I have to resort to Couchsurfing, it's quite the opposite. I have more than enough to stay in a hostel every single night, but that is not what I wish to do. I am looking to fully experience the city I am visiting from a locals perspective. I grew up in a tourist town, I have had enough of the tourist attractions, and I know as a local myself, that the most unique spots are only found through locals.

I want to see what YOU eat, where YOU party, where YOU go to escape the city, what YOU spend most of your time doing YOUR views on the world, YOUR history. If that is something you would like to share with someone who is genuinely interested, then choose to host me.

Interests

I prefer the outside to the inside, shoes to sandals, mountains to the desert. Music is the key to my heart and soul. Total foodie, farm to table is the best and I would rather starve than eat at a chain. I love about any type of outdoor recreation, especially snowboarding and rock climbing.

I loosely consider myself an artist and I am always working on little projects here and there, ranging from photography to painting to writing.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
I have a deep love and passion for music, especially live music. My library is constantly expanding and includes but is certainly not limited to- alternative, rock, classical, folk, bluegrass, funk, soul, indie, glitch, psychedelic, dance, electronic, glitch, trance. I am really into dance music and letting loose on the dance floor makes me feel unified with those around me. I have been to countless music & arts festivals, and can relate to that lifestyle more than any other. Right now you can find me listening to soft, ambient artists- background music to my everyday life. Music has brought me to share special moments with so many different people from all around the world. The universal language that is sound will forever keep me bonding with new people.

BOOKS
Unfortunately this list is not very impressive due to my failure to keep track of all the books I have read and three years of being force fed college textbooks. However, it is expanding as I have more time to devote to one of favorite pastimes.

Sacred Economics
The Yoga of Eating - both by Charles Einstein
The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle
Be Here Now - Ram Dass
The entire Harry Potter series ten times (at least)
1984 - Orwell
Burmese Days - Orwell
The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien
Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert
Wild - Cheryl Strayed
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series - Stieg Larsson
Rational Mysticism

CURRENTLY READING
The End of Overeating

I do spend an enormous amount of time reading blogs, articles, scientific journals, and Wikipedia.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Graduated college and drove across the United States, from Florida to Nevada, to attend Burning Man, a festival based on the following principals-

Radical Inclusion
Gifting
Decommodification
Radical Self-Reliance
Radical Self-Expression
Communal Effort
Civic Responsibility
Leaving No Trace
Participation
Immediacy

The festival lasts a week in the desert under some of the harshest conditions known to man. Participants are expected to bring their own food, water, and shelter as none are provided of sold inside the temporary city. It is both an social experiment and masterpiece to be enjoyed or hated by each individual person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I studied Business Administration at the University of Florida and specialized in Travel and Tourism Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship.

Contrary to my degree, I am not a fan of big business and do not wish to exploit people for money. I do think innovation is key for the future because we can not backtrack from the harm we have done to the planet without it.

I would like to study psychology, feminism, and journalism next, as I will never stop expanding my knowledge.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An opinion of a white American woman who tries not to contradict herself too much. :)

Stories from my favorite festivals, including Burning Man of course.

A bottle of wine.

A hike or bicycle ride through the city or country.

Business and creative advice, I enjoy constructive criticism.

Help on any creative projects.

A spot on my couch when I am home.

I will cook you a healthy dinner and share some of my healthy eating habits with you.

A possible long term friendship.
