ABOUT ME

I'm an Art Historian, i.e. one of those people who look at old paintings and books the entire day. During my years of university, I've been studying abroad a lot, for instance in Pisa, New York City and Utrecht. I decided to participate in CS because I love travelling and getting to know new places and people. When I'm not travelling myself (and unfortunately you cannot always be travelling ;) I love meeting people, learn about their lives and hear all kinds of different stories. In my opinion this is very important, because it keeps one's mind moving and protects one from becoming boring.
As far as I can judge myself, I am outgoing and friendly, very interested in how other people think and feel and experience the world.

PHILOSOPHY

With every new person, location and situation I get to know, I learn something new about myself.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and host, attend CS meetings, organize events and get-togethers. I really like the idea of natural human trust and therefore I totally support the CS mission - I made so many good experiences on my trips and through the events.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Once, I hosted a friend for almost a month while she was looking for a room in NYC. We had a great time, exploring the new city together and sharing the input.
On our roadtrip to San Francisco we experienced a wonderful hospitality of the couch surfers we stayed with! Everyone always had a bunch of suggestions and tips of what to do and where to go in their area. I love that idea of sharing experiences and thus would like to give something back!

Interests

I am interested in culture and history of different places.
I love nature, animals (cats!), gardening and being creative.
I'm very enthusiastic about recycling, upcycling, social and ecological responsibility and sustainability, alternatives to capitalism and a mindful life on this planet.
And I enjoy out with nice people for a nice glass of wine or beer, and cooking at home with friends - live, talk, and have a good time on earth.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love everything from Classical Music (Bach!) and Opera over Björk, Iron & Wine, Kaizer's Orchestra, Bernhoft, but also A Perfect Circle and Tool...

When not reading books about the history of Flemish Painting, I love novels like Eco's "Name of the Rose" or Mercier's "Night Train to Lisbon"...

The best movies recently watched are "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "La Grande Bellezza".
And not to forget: John Malkovic as "Klimt" is overwhelming!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess the most amazing thing so far was my roadtrip from New York to San Francisco!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can talk a lot about the history of art and art collecting - I'm pretty enthusiastic about it and I love to discuss cultural and social things.

I'd also be very happy to teach you some things about plants, gardening, sustainability and recycling - on the example of my own rooftop garden! :)
