Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've just met the CS group in Asturias and I'm very happy with the good vibes of the community.

I've surfed and hosted in the past, but not in the context of CouchSurfing, so technically I'm still a virgin.

But looking back... I realize that I have an story to tell. My couch hosted one of my current best friends back in 2004, when I was still living in Madrid. He came home just a few days after meeting him in Caños de Meca (Cádiz). Initially he was staying just for a couple of days while he found a cheap ticket to Costa Rica; he ended up staying for more than two months, and we became close as brothers. This qualifies as couchsurfing, I guess.. and with great outcome :)

Interests

I'm interested in almost everything except soccer and mainstream politics.

Capoeira, music and off-beat people are probably some of my bigger weaknesses.

I play bass guitar, some guitar, some ukelele, some percussion...

Music, Movies, and Books

Actually I don't have favorites, in fact I'm quite contrary to the concept of favorite, so this is a completely random list of some of the things I read, watch and listen. I'm mixing authors, works and genres nonsensically. Music: Pixies. Chet Baker. The Velvet Underground. Fela Kuti. Explosions in the Sky. Johnny Cash. João, Astrud and Bebel Gilberto (in that strict order). The Smiths. Baden Powell. Interpol. Tom Waits. Violent Femmes. Sonic Youth. John Coltrane. Radiohead. Nick Cave. Pentangle. Mulatu Astatke. Justice. Godspeed You! Black Emperor. M83. Nudozurdo. Bach's Goldberg Variations played by Glenn Gould. Joy Division. The Doors. Sigur Rós. Oh, hey, here's my last.fm profile.Movies: Into The Wild. Apocalypse Now. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Science of Sleep. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Secretary. Performance. Donnie Darko. Broken Flowers. Spirited Away. The Royal Tenembaums. Straw Dogs. Sorry, I just can't stand Woody Allen: I loved Zelig and Annie Hall but got tired after that.Books: Jorge Luis Borges. The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. Carlos Castaneda. A Song of Ice and Fire. The beat generation. C.G. Jung (Synchronicity!). The Harry Potter saga. Dorothy Parker. The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce. The Catcher in the Rye. The Treasure Island.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

* Swim at night in the mediterranean surrounded by bioluminescent Noctiluca (ok, I was also a bit wasted, but still).

* Sneak in the Astor Hotel in Shanghai and climb to its roof to watch Pudong's skyline.

* Hear the howler monkeys during sunset in the Amazonas.

* Almost fall and die in Garganta do Diabo, Iguazú, Brazil.

Countries I've Visited
Gambia is so tiny that you can't even see it here, so I marked Senegal instead :D
