Sobre mí

I'm very passionate about rock and metal music and this has led me to incredible adventures and was the reason I started traveling abroad. I even landed my first job (in a music magazine covering rock and metal) this way and continue freelance writing from time to time. So if I bother anyone of you sometime in the future, it most possibly be with a mail of the sort: "Hi, I'll be going to a Tangerine Dream concert in your city, could you help me?"

Apart from that... well, I'm a bit shy (although CS is definitely helping with getting over this!) and at first I might come across as aloof because of it, but I'm in fact very friendly and the thing I value the most (beside my family, good music and chocolate!) are my friends. Another thing I'm trying to overcome is the tendency to procrastinate, if you have any good tips on how not to get everything done "tomorrow" or the day after tomorrow, please share.

In regard to what I do - I currently study Greek philology and I'm a freelance music journalist and translator. Day job - building database for eBay. My biggest dream is to one day become a writer; if I ever really finish a short story or a novel and it touches the soul of even one person, I'd know my existence wasn't in vain.
EDIT: As of November 2014, I have actually started working on a horror novel. For the past few years I've been getting progressively interested in the horror genre, with Stephen King, Howard Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe and Clive Barker becoming favourites; I got a good idea for a plot and I am now developing it along with the characters, I'm reading guides on creative writing, scribbling down the first chapters and generally fighting the disbelief that I can write a whole book.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Entirely positive, all people I met through couchsurfing and all things I experienced with and thanks to them were amazing!

Intereses

Rock and metal music, nearly all types, but especially much progressive. Just give me a 25-minute long song with 17 solos, 11 tempo changes and 7 parts, and I'm happy!

Going to concerts and festivals, generally living and breathing music - as of 2014, I've been to more than 200 concerts and festivals (including major ones like Sweden Rock Fest) in ten different countries, I've worked backstage and translated at some, have written articles, reviews and live reports

Creative hobbies such as knitting, friendship bracelet making, drawing; I'm always interested in exploring new crafts, so if you have a hobby like this, don't hesitate to teach me

Illustration which is an underrated art in my opinion. Some of my earliest childhood memories involve staring at every little detail in the pictures in children books (Tony Wolf is still a favourite!), and to this day I find it amazing how much illustrations add to the final product (a book, an album, ...). Personal heroes: Roger Dean, Rodney Matthews, Stephen Gammel

Traveling, of course

Pool - I can spend hours playing billiards, totally adore it!

Peyking - the Bulgarian word for drinking beer on a bench in a park; I love parks and nature

Música, películas y libros

Music: my two big loves are Pink Floyd and Marillion; I adore the projects of Toby Driver (Kayo Dot, maudlin of the Well, Vaura, Tartar Lamb...) and I'm getting increasingly interested in avant-garde fusion prog metal (The Pax Cecilia are the other fave guys in the style); lately loads of Steven Wilson, tons of progressive rock and metal ranging from Genesis and Van der Graaf Generator to Oceansize and Opeth. Classical music and jazz too.

Actually - see for yourself:

Movies: Hair, Pink Floyd: The Wall, The Deer Hunter, Back to the Future, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Gattaca, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Prestige, Sweeney Todd, The War of the Roses...

Books: 1984, anything dystopian, P.G. Wodehouse, Jerome Jerome, Steinbeck, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, H. P. Lovecraft, J. R. R. Tolkien,...

Algo increíble que he hecho

Wandering around Rotterdam's commercial port when it started raining lightly, listening to a loved song depicting nearly the same activity - a true WOW moment.

The great feeling of fulfilment when I was holding a magazine with an article of mine printed in paper for the first time.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can teach you the most pointless craft in the world - friendship bracelet making, it's all good fun though ;)

What else... I see a lot of people on CS enjoy cooking and collect recipes from different parts of the world, but be warned - the best I can do in a kitchen is fire :p
