ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Kurt... nice to meet you!... I currently live in Fort St. John, B.C. Canada. That's at Mile 48 of the infamous Alaska Highway! I work as an oilfield electrician & the best part of my job is working as much or as little as I want.
I have a huge passion for travel, music & food. I'm rather spontaneous & have been known to book overseas flights with less than 48 hours notice. I've thrown beads at Mardi Gras, jumped out of a plane in Las Vegas, been lost in Albania, sipped fresh mojitos in Havanna, scootered through Thailand, stumbled my way through Oktoberfest, lost my camera in Prague, survived a hipster party in New York (before hipsters were cool), and many things inbetween. My next adventure is a couple weeks through the UK making sure to hit the Hogmany Festival in Edinburgh. Can't wait for the Loony Dook jump!
I love to read & immerse myself in my own imagination. However, it seems that a vast majority of the most recent books I've read have unknowingly referenced the pilgramage of Santiago de Compostela. I can't get it out of my mind now & will eventually have to make this trek.
When I'm not working or traveling, I love to go offroading. There are tons of trails, waterfalls & lakes in B.C. and there is never a shortage of people wanting to check them & the wildlife out. After all, British Columbia is "The Best Place on Earth". Just look at our licence plates for proof!
I love live music & festivals. The energy & feeling I get from sharing something great with many other people around is in-explainable. I just love the rush & the contact high of thousands & thousands of people enjoying the music & doing their own thing. Anybody that has been to a larger festival will know how addictive this is. I've had innumerable moments of pure bliss getting lost in all genres of live music.
I'm an easy going & carefree guy. I like to learn of local culture & try see the not-so-touristy side when I travel. When I'm not in it just for the party ;) which I'll admit, I definitely enjoy. Life is a party. Drink it up.
PHILOSOPHY
Life is what you choose it to be. "How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you were?" is a quote of my grandpa's. He lost his birth certificate and nobody knew for sure what year he was born. It was always kind of an inside joke as to how old he turned that year. But it's kind of stuck. I have always felt very young at heart. I feel I may be a bit different than the "societal norm" in that my heart often lies with places as opposed to people. There are definitely people in my life I love, but the feeling I get when I see something miraculous in nature for the first time is just euphoric. Nature & construction amazes me. How did they build some impossibly large & intricate structures in the past with not an ounce of the technology or tools we have, but we wouldn't dare to commit to such endeavors as pyramids or cathedrals today? How much water & how long did it take to actually carve all of the Grand Canyon? How is it possible to have mountains under the ocean larger than the ones above? These things boggle my mind.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have only managed to CouchSurf once in New York and it was amazing. I booked a trip with my then girlfriend with very little notice. We drew city names out of a hat as we couldn't decide where to go. I have hosted a few times and have never had a bad experience. I'm honestly quite surprised I get as many requests as I do in the area I live in!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My experience is very limited on the surfing end, however it might be hard to beat. Charlotte & her roommates were more than I bargained for. Definitely hooked me on couchsurfing & I'd never look back. I usually find myself in a party wherever I go (I actually managed to crash a birthday party in Sorrento, Italy on the beach, convince them to set off some fireworks in the wee hours of the morning, almost get arrested, and have to hop the fence to get back into my hotel. All in a city I was told I'd die of boredom in.), but these girls really threw down & showed me the wide variety of night life New York is famous for. I'm more experienced in the hosting end. I've hosted a yound doctor couple from Poland, and several people from the United States. I'm hoping I can get a bit more surfing in the coming months with my trip through the U.K. Would love to be hosted & shown around the local side of places I likely wouldn't see otherwise.

Music, Movies, and Books
My musical tastes are pretty diverse. I love psy-trance & dirty electro. Jazz & reggae. Anything live except country. Wanna see me squirm? Take me to a country event. Bleck! Most of my reading material of late has had a medieval theme. I often fantasize about what it must have been like living in that time with none of the everyday comforts we so take for granted today.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I think the most amazing thing I've seen would be the Grand Canyon. I still cannot fathom the amount of time & power it must have taken to carve such a monstrous hole in the earth. Mind blowing!
