Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Couch surfing is all I need when I am on the road, and can provide just that to like minded individuals when at home.
More recently I've gotten deeper into the CS community. No only surfing/hosting, but utilizing the community pages for ride shares, BBQ's, parties, bush walks, tramps, hikes, etc.
When I am surfing, I like to offer my skills and abilities to my host. This ranges from computer/IT help, labor (I remodeled my own home ove a 3 year span and can offer my experience in the areas of demolition, framing, electrical, plumbing, flooring, painting, carpentry and heaps more, just ask!) reaching things off high shelves (I'm tall) moving furniture or other heavy things, just generally contributing to my host's well being as a barter for being generous enough to allow me into their domicile.
I prefer to come into a host's abode offering at least a token gift, anything from a bottle of wine, some beers, or something particular to my host to show my gratitude. As some Maori tribes offer a fern as a peace offering, I try to do the same.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Each CS experience is unique, and awesome. I was travelling with a friend who was completely foreign to the CS idea, and we surfed with a charming German couple in Arizona, who then later went and surfed with my buddy, in Las Vegas. This full circle encompasses everything CS stands for, and what you can hope to expect by opening the mind!

Music, Movies, and Books
Got some good thoughts out of "The Power of Now," Just finishing "Life, Inc" and find it fascinating, and a little sad. Also finishing Steve Job's bio, been listening to Triple J in Aus, heard a neat artist on the streets of Sydney playing a Didgeridoo to what I would describe as a techno beat. As in life, if I haven't heard it yet, that's what I want to listen to.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've had a lucky life so far, and I'm very thankful for that.
Taking in Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden at the turn of the millenium was very special. Also seeing him and Bryan Adam outside the Coliseum in Rome was right up there as well.
Diving in the Maldives, being in the Louvre on the day of the week they stay open late, and having the Mona Lisa all to myself, Sydney new years fireworks, sky diving over Dubai, these are all memories I treasure.
Teach, Learn, Share
This bit is the most important, I think.
From my career & life experiences I can bring at least the following to the table:
Computer help, anything from getting rid of a nasty virus, to getting someone online with a web page/site. Configuring your wireless router, cleaning/upgrading your PC, teaching you how to use your Mac.
Labor: I'm a strapping young lad who spent a few years in residential remodeling. Demolition, carpentry, electrical, painting, flooring, plumbing. This is a pretty big area so if you have a particular need, let's talk it over.
I'm also tall and strong, so if you need something off a high shelf, or some heavy things moved, I can help here too.
I'm a good problem solver/critical thinker, don't me afraid to put me up to the test to see if I can't assist in non conventional ways.
I'd love to learn how to play some music, I'm sort of teaching myself the harmonica. I'd also love to learn how to make art. Painting or drawing for starters.
