COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I) ATLANTIC SAILING CROSSING

Before going to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria:

I learn through "CS-Forums" about different characters at the Capitania, Texaco & Bar all at the Port, and also about fellow "CS-Members" persuing the same goal.

I've also read "CS-Posts" about different background of sailors on boats bound to St Lucia (for the ARC sailing race), Antigua (Brits & Commenwealths), Martinica (Les Français), Curaçao (Dutch) and so on.
Cabo Verde, a stop-over, were for the most conservative sailors going to Barbados and the most adventurous crossing south beyond the ecuador, exposed to ITCZ.

At Arrival to Las Palmas:

"AUGMENTED REALITY" was what I´ve experienced in Las Palmas, since I was already familiar with all the local characters, thanks to "CS-Site"!
The boat that took me, was anchor at Capitania doing maintenance, and I knew already about its whereabouts through a post.

The Journey:

"Keep Calm and Carry On" through a long journey, a psico-tunnel with dejavous, for an unkonwn period of time. I was unable to sleep for more than 3 hours together. Food and beverages (enough drinking water, though) were scare. The Capitain was always right, whether I like it or not. Erratic weather patterns with stagnant calms for few days where I could swim around the boat, were suddently followed by midnight thunderstorm in the dark, with the skipper scriming at me things I did not know!
I knew that if I broke a bond I was in troubles, since the capitain said he had no morphine. He already used almost all fuel during the calm days, so we would not change curses anymore.
If I'd fell from the boat at night in a storm changing sails, it were almost no chance to get me back on board. About sea sickness, I did not know how my body & mind will coup with it till the 3rd or 4rd day.
We had not seen any other boat for the first two weeks.
My thoughts about fellow CSfers experiencing the same ..at the same time, were I great support!
It is a extraordinary mental and fisical challenge. Very rewarding. The boat brought me here to a small island called Les Saintes. I'm at a caribbean beach, having lunch with a rasta that invited with a grilled fish and trying to figure out how to reach southamerica, since very few dare to approach the Venezuelan cost ..due to pirate attacks!

II) ISLAND:
As Casey Fenton (CS` founder), I bought a ticket to Island, taking my bicycle with me.
I went from bar to bar under the midnight sun (Bar Circus being the best!), meeting great people, that I hang around & surfed with!
