About Me

I am a first-year PhD in Cultural Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. In 2015, I graduated with a Masters' degree in Asian Studies from the University of Oregon, in Eugene.

I have also lived and worked in the People's Republic of China, at Xi'an's Northwest University in Foreign Languages University, as well as Jump! Foundation and Where There Be Dragons.

I love to learn about the world, and I like to meet new people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to count, but if you're looking for something to do, listen to Joanna Newsom, Andrew Bird, Brazzaville, Van Dyke Parks, or The Mountain Goats, and read books by Jorge Luis Borges, Italo Calvino, Annie Dillard, Milan Kundera, or Zadie Smith.

I've also got a long shelf of nonfiction books if you want to borrow something "intellectual"... but I'll spare you the list.

Also, I love comics; read Joe Sacco, Adrian Tomine, Marjane Satrapi, Alison Bechdel, Derek Kirk Kim, Chris Ware, Tove Jansson, and many others. If you're surfing online, check out the comics, "A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irreversible," "Too Much Coffee Man," and "Pup Contemplates the Heat Death of the Universe," if you haven't already!

I'm always up for thoughtful conversation. Just ask me!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived 30 years on planet earth.

Teach, Learn, Share

‎"Being in a foreign country means walking a tightrope high above the ground without the net afforded a person by the country where he has his family, colleagues, and friends, and where he can easily say what he has to say in a language he has known from childhood" (Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being).

The rest doesn't fit in a box.

Countries I’ve Visited
